I recently visited Avani Indian Bistro with a group of friends, eager to indulge in some delicious Indian cuisine. We started our meal with high hopes, ordering their renowned Paneer Lababdar, a dish known for its medium spiciness. Unfortunately, what we experienced left us both surprised and disappointed.
Initially, we were served a sweet version of Paneer Lababdar, which was sweeter than another Curry of Malai Kofta which usually more on sweeter side. Given that we were expecting to have to its original taste, we kindly asked the server if they could make it medium spicy, as is commonly the case with this dish. They seemed accommodating and assured us that they would deliver.
To our dismay, when the "spiced-up" Paneer Lababdar arrived, it was anything but what we had anticipated. The dish was now swimming in an overwhelming sea of fiery red chili sauce, completely obscuring the flavors of the paneer and the delicate spicing that should have complemented it. We were taken aback by the intense heat, which had overpowered every other aspect of the dish. It was not medium spice; it was an assault of chili that made it nearly inedible for those of us who prefer a balanced, flavorful spiciness.
What made matters worse was that we could see a clear difference between the sweet version and the spicy one served to us, as evident from the pictures we took. It was disheartening to witness such a drastic departure from the traditional preparation of Paneer Lababdar.
While the service at Avani Indian Bistro was not courteous, and the ambiance was pleasant, we cannot recommend this place for those seeking an authentic, flavorful, and well-balanced spicy meal. It's evident that they struggle with understanding the concept of "medium spiciness," and their interpretation resulted in a poorly executed dish that lacked the subtleties of the original recipe.
If you're a fan of genuinely spicy food, this might not be the ideal place for you. The sweet version of Paneer Lababdar was delightful, so perhaps sticking to their milder offerings would be a safer bet. However, if you're looking for an authentic and well-executed spicy Indian dish, I regret to say that Avani Indian Bistro falls short of expectations.
In conclusion, our experience was marred by their inability to deliver on the spice level promised, and we left with a sense of dissatisfaction. Hopefully, they take our feedback constructively and work towards maintaining the authenticity of their dishes for all types of palates. Until then, it's a restaurant we would hesitate to recommend to spice...

To embark on my culinary adventure, I started with the Thai fish cakes, a delightful fusion dish that seamlessly melded Thai flavors with Indian spices. Each bite was a symphony of textures and tastes, leaving me eager to explore more.
Moving on to the main course, I indulged in the quintessential Indian classic, butter chicken, which was nothing short of perfection. The tender chicken bathed in a luscious, creamy tomato sauce was a testament to the culinary expertise of Avani's chefs. Paired with fragrant basmati rice, it was a dish that transported me to the streets of India with every bite.

The tandoori chicken, marinated to perfection and cooked in the traditional clay oven, boasted a smoky flavor that was simply irresistible. The kebabs, tender and bursting with spices, provided a delightful contrast of flavors.

Read moreTried this restaurant for a family get together dinner. The restaurant is big inside and has enough seating for small to large groups. The service was attentive and fast. However, the food was about average. We ordered a few cocktails that were about okay while the presentation was good.
A shoutout to Komal who attended to us and went above and beyond to make our visit a pleasant one despite all the experiences described below with the food we ordered.
Drinks: Frozen Coconut Monsoon 2.5/5. Nothing unique about it despite the different ingredients. Tasted very close to a sweet mango lassi. No coconut, pineapple or rum flavour. Mumbai Mojito 3.5/5 worthy trying Taj Margarita 3.5/5 worthy trying Mango Fizz 3/5 okay drink Freshly squeezed lemon soda 4/5
Food items: Chilli chicken 1.5/5: had more sauce than required. The pieces had a distinct unfavourable taste once the sauce is washed off. The taste was similar to cooking frozen chicken in a microwave. I wouldn’t try it again. Chicken lollipops 3/5: while the presentation was good, the wings/drumsticks were deep fried in oil and not given enough time to cook. Felt slightly uncooked. Avani chicken sampler 2.5/5: Ordered two samplers. The marinated tandoor chicken items barely had any flavour & taste except the colours. The chicken tikka and harayali were especially undercooked and just had colour to them and zero taste. The sampler is a total waste. Garlic naans 3/5: they came with three pieces per order instead of two unlike any other restaurant which is a good value. They were undercooked on the outer sides like a thick unbaked pizza crust. Komal suggested to do a custom order and we did a separate order of naans with thin and slightly crunchy versions which came out so well and we enjoyed them. Chicken tikka masala 2.5/5: the gravy was okay with a very mild flavour but the pieces were undercooked. Mangalore coconut chicken 2/5: Chicken was cooked well but the gravy is almost bland with barely any flavour. Wasted item. Needs flavour improvement. Chicken fried rice 2.5/5: taste was okay but rice was hard/undercooked.
Conclusion: There are better Indian restaurants out there to have a nice and tasty dinner...
