Took my son here for breakfast. Seating is tight in the booths. Menus are good, and we were offered drinks promptly. Coffee was fine, and orange juice in a bottle was cold. My son had a classic breakfast, scrambled, with bacon, white toast, and homefries. It was correct. I ordered a Truckers Haul, and was pretty excited. A Truckers Haul is 3 eggs any way, a pick of 2 between bacon, ham, and sausage, toast, and choice of homefries, coin potatoes, or fries. I'm a big guy, my order, was 4 eggs in total, over medium. Double bacon. Extra order of toast(4 slices in total), and homefries. I received 3 eggs over hard, 1 order of toast, double bacon, and French fries. It was difficult to get our servers attention, and after I did, and told her I was missing an egg, she took off to get me another before I could tell her they weren't cooked to my liking, and I ordered homefries, not French fries, and was missing an order of toast. After getting the servers attention again, several minutes later, I told her I didn't want the meal and she could take it back. I wasn't rude, I just came there to eat with my son, and he was nearly finished his meal, so I wasn't interested in waiting for them to cook another meal for me to eat. A senior server came to our table after, and said since I wasn't happy with my meal, I would be getting it for half price, which was interesting, considering the only 2 other times I was served meals I wasn't happy with and didn't eat, the staff removed the meal from our bill. When I went to pay our bill I said I didn't eat my meal, so I didn't think I should be charged for it. She agreed and removed it. I was also told our server was in training(with no one beside her ensuring the order was taken properly. No pin, or name tag indicating she was being trained, but she did have a note pad and seemed to write everything down as we ordered it.)A classic breakfast, a coffee, and an iced tea was North of $20. I pick the small mom and pop buisness every time I can, and this time it was a dud. 1 star is generous, and only because I wasn't charged for a meal I didn't eat. Not sure I could go back for a second meal. Would not recommend, but wish them well...
Read moreTERRIBLE for food restrictions!! They could not substitute anything, and their pancakes are made with a mix where they "just add water". I ordered the only thing I knew would be safe for me, fries, and it took 25 minutes to come out, by itself. Besides that the server was attentive enough and kind, and the fries were okay. Not the restaurants fault, but many many men stared at me and my friend, we are teenagers that don't look very alt. It felt horrible as always. I do not suggest going here ESPECIALLY if you have ANY dietary restrictions.
I can't seem to reply to the owner, so I'll just edit here. Our party of 5, did not request seating where another group was ALREADY SITTING, we would have been fine in the booth. The other people got moved fully on the restaurant's part, which may have been well-meaning, but was very unprofessional. As for our "lifestyle".. being a teenager..? We didn't dress at all alternative or even somewhat strange. We all had modest clothing and normal attire. The restaurant cannot be held accountable for its patrons, which I previously stated, I am simply writing my experience down, and this restaurant was filled with elderly people. Many of the men have no manners when it comes to staring, and that makes people who don't want 80 year old guys staring at their bodies, very uncomfortable. Therefore;
If you have ANY special needs for diet, are compelled to write about a restaurant any lower than 4 stars, like not getting moved from your seat, have low patience, or don't like men staring at you, DO...
Read moreCruising back from Lake Huron we needed a brunch spot. There were a bunch of cars in front of Mel’s 4&9 Diner just outside Walkerton so we stepped in. It is a pretty cool old time diner with just enough room for a kitchen and a few tables. We were seated at the window, which was nice and everyone dining there was very friendly. Almost like we were back in the 1950’s when people would actually speak to each other. The menu has lots of breakfast and lunch options. My son had the breakfast wrap, I had a toasted Western, my wife had an omelette and my daughter in law had the fish sandwich. All very good. The waiter was a very nice young g woman with a big smile, the prices were reasonable and easy to park. Hope to...
