Changed review from 4 stars to 1 star. When I went over a year ago, it was okay and I was happy to leave a 4 star review.
I went recently and it was the polar opposite. This was honestly the worst sushi experience I have had in all of my years. Literally -- I have had college cafeteria sushi from 3 local schools that was more appealing than this.
I believe this is the first time I am leaving a 1 star review for a restaurant. I never imagined an experience could be this bad. I eat out frequently and sushi is probably the most common outing.
The waiting staff tried to avoid interactions other than to bring food and to clear it as soon as possible. The food came out in the wrong order. The rolls came, then the sashimi and then the appetizers. The first roll came out so fast, it must have been pre-made. The Sashimi wasn't even fully defrosted properly -- there were very cold chunks and the flavor was gone. Many pieces were weirdly chewy. The rolls were not seasoned properly. One was too sweet and the other was bland. The rolls were not cut properly -- while I have been using chopsticks since I was 2 and am proficient, I had several pieces of the sushi come apart (I was being extremely cautious). My friend who wasn't as adept had basically of her pieces come apart. None of the food tasted fresh. Nothing tasted sour to be fair, but the natural flavor was gone. The Ebi Sumonomo had way too much vinegar in it.
I came after work just expecting a casual time. Honestly, I've never left a restaurant feeling like I've been swindled until now. I literally felt like I was in an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. But, in that series, at least usually, the servers would be friendly and try to make the experience better.
I wanted to address all of this to the owner in person, but because my friend was persistent on just going home, I did not. I understand you may want to rush out food -- but I did not at any given point mention I am rushed -- I had plenty of time. There are standards and while I'm not a picky diner, I found the whole experience to be repulsive.
I really wish there was anything nice to say about my experience, whether it be one nice (or attentive) staff member, 1 dish that was acceptable, or that the ingredients were good, or that some effort was made.
Maybe this is a one-off experience because I got there on a weekday after 8 PM. Maybe there were trainee staff. I do not know for certain; however, while the location is convenient for me, unless something major happens, I can not see myself returning there after this shocking experience.
If ownership turns it around and reviews change, I will consider trying it again. But as it stands, I would have rather paid the $50+ for an...
Read moreI came here in the past and this was not the first time. I wanted to try their food again and see if anything had changed.
The result was that everything remained the same haha the prices were a bit cheaper than other Japanese restaurants. The quality was okay but not excellent. People who love sushi and Japanese food know what is good quality. However the prices here matched the quality. I wouldn’t mind to have a lower quality of food but at a lower cost.
I ordered quite 7 items in total this time.
1 - takoyaki Not very good. The real good ones are not like this. Ones here got a lot of batter. I even ate one that had no octopus at all. Even there was octopus, the size was very small or tiny.
2 - chicken kaarage (wings) I expected chicken kaarage would be small pieces of fried chicken but they had wings instead. Not bad.
3 - Tuna and salmon sashimi Portion was huge and I felt like I was eating fish steak keke again cheaper price and bigger portion
4 - BBQ hamachi gama This was actually good! It was a bit less salty, so I had to add some salt to the fish myself
5 - Mentaiko udon I think I liked this dish the most among 7 of them.
6 - futomaki (half) This is like the Korean Kimbap. The quality was ok.
7 - Alaska roll This is the second dish that I liked the most. There were chunks of avocado inside the roll and salmon on the top with delicious sauce. I ordered this every time I ordered from Sushi Garden.
The customer service was okay. Because of the restrictions, nobody could dine in. It’s good that people still order takeout abs support the business.
In terms of parking, there is pay street parking in front of the restaurant unfortunately. I was doing. Grocery shopping at PriceSmart on the opposite side of the street. I parked my car and did grocery shopping first and then walked across the street to pick up the takeout, which saved me the parking fee on the...
Read morewe love to go in this place, love the food. but today there’s an incident were the girl (server) accidentally drop the spoon and I look on her when she drop it. and came to our table to serve the spoon and fork (in the first place we don’t need spoon) so I ask my friend if that’s the spoon she drop? server turned around and said “I change the spoon thats not the one I drop” (She could have said, oh no, no i changed the spoon. Or oh no its different spoon in a nicer way) in the first place i wasn’t even talking to her. so I just didn’t mind until she slammed the spoon on the container bin they have for the unclean stuffs that they put it around where the customers could see it. It is just poor service, I mean common I worked in customer service for a long time too but never ever gave that kind of attitude. She talked to her co-workers and everyone was just keep looking at us until we left. And she stop serving us instead the other guy serve us. Thats how you handle customers? I didn’t even talk the server. It’s very disappointing. All of the servers looking at us like we did something wrong even the person behind...
