We have had no issues when ordering or eating in house with Peking House. Their customer service has been the same as any other Chinese restaurant. Peking House is in my neighbourhood and I would love to support them.
However, Kam Han who is in the same delivery area offers discounts in various levels for the amount you spend. These discounts are advertised on the website.
Peking House offers NO DISCOUNTS online. That being said they will match Kam Hans advertised discounts but only if you let them know.
That is my first concern with Peking House.
My second concern is that they will not match Kam Han's $80 free Salt and Pepper Squid dish which is a $19 savings. When pressed I was offered a Shanghai Noodle dish. At that point I said I can't order from Peking House Lake Bonavista based on their firm stance of not matching a close competitor.
Our order was over $80. I let Peking House Lake Bonavista know I was going to order from Kam Han. I was then offered the Salt and Pepper Squid for $5, a discount that should have been offered long before our conversation. I was then told to accept the discount or order somewhere else. THAT IS EXCTLY WHAT I DID.
Hopefully those that read this review take it as it is. I did my homework and I have dined in both restaurants. Again one does not outperform the other, except......
As I said above, Kam Han gave us the free seafood dish, a $19 savings without having to negotiate, I noticed that EVERY dish Peking House offers is $2 more than the Chinese restaurants in the neighbourhood.
Looking for others to give their reviews of Chinese restaurants in the Lake Bonavista area. I'm all for great tasting food without being subject to higher prices across the whole menu and the mindset that prices are higher because the food is tastier or there is more when it is...
Read moreIn full disclosure, I have spent the majority of my life in Bonavista having grown up here, and now raising my two beautiful daughters. Prior to last night, I had never once gone to the Bonavista Peking House; however, we decided to order it for our NYE dinner.
Compared to some other options around the city, and in China Town, it is not the best Chinese food. With that said, in the southeast, it’s among the best we’ve had. The ginger chicken was to die for, the salt & pepper squid was crispy and well seasoned. The Shanghai noodles could have had more flavour, however, all in all we really enjoyed the experience. They delivered fresh food and on time, which is no small feat for New Year’s Eve.
All in all, it exceeded expectations. We will absolutely be returning and finally dine in after almost 35 years passing it by in the Promenade.
I would absolutely recommend the Bonavista...
Read moreThe food is great but the service was terrible. They forgot to bring out food, never checked up on us about food or to refill drinks, the juice was expired so couldn't order a Shirley temple. When one of our table guests was questioned about the lack of tip(she was going to tip cash) she said the service wasn't great, and they went around the table saying "this lady says our service was bad, our service isn't bad right?". It was incredibly awkward.
We were also at a large party and they didn't even put the two tables next to each other, so we couldn't socialize with the other table. The table beside ours was empty, they didn't fill it till later in the night.
We used to love going here, but I feel like with all the stress of running a business during covid they have stopped caring about...
