Literally nestled in the community of Cedarbrae lays a quiet strip mall with a big flavour bomb hidden within its unassuming premises.
Sabores has been on my visit list for months and I finally had the opportunity to check it out.
It’s a To Go theme with a very small store presence where you can pick up freshly made salsa’s and various canned goods. There are home made tortilla chips everywhere which tells me they are likely a very good seller. Did not try them but will next time.
I ordered the Pork Tamale, Chicken Tostada, Pork Pastor and Beef Tongue Tacos. You also get a complimentary salsa so I asked for med and spicy.
The Tamale was perfect, moist and rich in flavour and texture. A little dip in the salsa capped the taste experience.
The Tostada was topped high with chicken, beans, lettuce, sour cream and cheese. Wow, at first bite I was drawn in. I don’t normally get Tostada’s cause they are messy and hard to eat. I put my insecurities aside and dove in, enjoy each and every bite until it was no more!
And now the Taco’s, the pork pastor was mouth changing! A few drops of fresh lime and this taco didn’t stand a chance. The rich flavours will alone drag me back for a second visit.
The beef tongue was also good but within its own simplicity. These tacos don’t boast lettuce and other condiments, just a delicious corn tortilla, cilantro/onion and the star protein. I enjoyed being able to taste the beef tongue and not have to work through all the other accoutrements. Simple yet delectable, especially once you marry it to one of the incredible salsa’s that come with the meal.
Staff were very friendly and helpful when asked questions about the menu. Store was clean and well merchandised to suite the customers needs, again as a To Go Store.
If you haven’t been to Sabores, you MUST put this place on your next culinary venture.
You won’t be let down, and if you are perhaps Taco Time if more in...
Read moreDecent food, decent pricing. Burritos both veggie and pork were large enough portion size to match their cost, and skip the dishes option is wonderful on cold days but both were rather bland in flavor. (Mostly because they completely fell apart before they arrived and spilled everywhere in the container) The pork burrito in particular came sitting in the sauce and was so saturated by the time it arrived that the tortilla and filling had to be eaten separate because they wouldn't stay together and because it came cut in half the filling had all fallen out before I was able to open the package.
We will find time to go in and either pick up an order or eat in if that's an option. I really want to try their tacos but I have reservations about how well they will travel after the burrito gumbo.
TL;DR: Soft tortilla sauce covered cut in half burritos do not travel well. Presentation suffered and was very messy to eat. Maybe don't cut them in half for delivery moving forward. Still excited to try other items on menu.
Edit/Update: During this covid-19 time we've ordered from them a few more times including the meals mentioned above. Everything about their delivery service and plate presentation/travel set up has been amazing since our original post. The burritos are no longer cut in half to spill in to the container and their sauces are in separate small containers. We are so happy that they actually read their reviews and strive to give their best food presentation to their customers regardless of dine in, take out, or delivery. The food is absolutely delicious and has become a household favorite when we are choosing somewhere...
Read moreCustomer be aware. I was so excited that a Mexican Restaurant opened in my neighborhood. I saw their booth at Spruce Meadows this last weekend and took a brochure home and convinced my husband we should order in for our date night. On the brochure it says they are on Skip the Dishes and Uber Eats - perfect we don't even have to pickup. We search Skip the Dishes app - cant find Sabores, no problem we find them on Uber Eats. We place our order. The Uber driver drops off our order. We open it up to discover that there is only 1 entre not the 2 we ordered. My husband calls the restaurant directly and is told that they will deliver the missing entre. The entre never comes. They close at 7:00pm. We called at 6:40pm about the missing entre. 7:00pm comes and goes. My husband phone the restaurant again - it's closed. This happened Saturday night and we have still not heard anything from the restaurant. My husband promptly calls Uber Eats to inform them. Uber Eats responds perfectly by reimbursing us the cost of the 1 entre and the delivery fee. Thank you Uber Eats we applaud you! Sabores we are extremely disappointed in your...
