Sizzling Rice — Restaurant in Calgary

I do not recommend this restaurant. The food was good with big portions and good quality. But I cannot get over the lack of service and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Read below for more info.

We orderded a potato on a stick to share and they served it to us with no plate. The server just handed us the stick. No napkins, plates or cutlery.

Read the menu closely. They have there take out food mixed in with the specials. They do not have much description in the specials so I ordered sesame chicken expecting a meal. I was only given a plate of sesame chicken. Where others who ordered in the specials had less meat and veggies included. I ordered a side of rice and felt embarrassed.

The server didn't check on us once. The place was small so it was too awkward to get up and ask for more water. When finished we had to walk to the front and ask for our bills and take out boxes.

Our table cloth was dirty where I was sitting. They have a glass sheet over the table (which was clean) but on the bare sides there was sauce and a piece of meat smeared on the cloth. The place was also grimy. You could see dust on objects at the front.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. I tried this place last year since I’ve moved to the area and this had been my go to place ever since. I’ve tried multiple items but so far my favourites are the Szechuan style beef, salt and pepper squid, and the beef with two mushrooms. They were so incredibly busy on New Year’s Eve that their line was down to rexall so I just decided to come on new year day. Still worth the wait. Also they have good inexpensive bubble teas 😄. Absolutely adore this restaurant. Waited very impatiently for the re opening after a neighboring building had a fire, and was thrilled when I was able to return. I placed a lunch order for myself and 10 other co workers we were all equally as happy with our choices!

You will NOT be disappointed, my personal favorites are the S&P Chicken, Ginger Beef, Chicken Fried Rice, and Chicken Cow Mein. Everything is hot, fresh, cooked to order and worth EVERY Penny. Its a small location, quaint and homey - perfect for quiet dining but we usually do take out!
