The Freeman family has created a local gem. The Goldmine is the perfect spot to find a moment's rest while indulging in a sweet treat, grabbing a pot of tea, or devouring a delicious homemade lunch. Everything is ALWAYS fresh and delivered with genuine kindness and real smiles. The staff are diligent, engaging and well informed on both the products and local activities going on. This is the type of place that becomes a community hub. You can find multi-generations enjoying their products and services and always making plans to come back...often before they have even gotten up from the table to leave! The goldmine has a sense of nostalgia for many. ...as you sit with your treat to enjoy it, you are often oovercome with a feeling of home and it can bring you back to those good times in childhood....like when Grandma would hand you a fresh baked cookie or let you lick the beaters (no they don't offer that at the Goldmine). In a world of fast food service, it is such a pleasure to be able to recieve stellar service from a business that feels like family, and reminds you of great childhood memories. Highly recommend stopping in for a treat or lunch if you are headed...

A gold mine of a bakery in Madoc, Ontario
We first discovered The Hidden Goldmine Bakery in February of 2019 as we were driving home from Ottawa, after the Winterlude festival. We stopped in for some butter tarts and a coffee to include them in our #buttertartquest. This store is very large, and they have a lot of beautiful looking baked goods on display. We visited again just before Christmas, and they had many holidays treats in addition to their normal offerings. They are clearly well-known for their butter tarts as they have many tarts on display. There is a café where you can enjoy a light meal, or a sweet treat and coffee while you relax and enjoy yourself.
They are also a lovely little gift shop with many great items for you to buy.
Butter tarts, baked goods, and sweet treats galore. They will make an appearance on the Roguetrippers Butter Tart Quest

Read moreVery nice gem of a bakery in Madoc. We were just passing through on our way home from Ardoch (Frontenac County). The workers were so friendly and welcoming, actually everyone we came across in Madoc was so nice 😊 I love the cute vintage decor inside and the lovely local bits (jams, maple syrups, coffee, Nic nacks, decor). The deserts all looked so yummy. We bought some butter tarts, cookies and the chocolate dipped peanut butter rice Krispies you must try! Delicious!! I can see why this place is popular for visitors passing by and for locals. Make sure to sign their guestbook upon entering. If we’re ever passing through here again we’ll surely drop by. Their back patio for ice cream looked very nice as well. Thanks for the awesome customer service and great...
