My server, Taylor, was excellent. While the kitchen ran out of items, that's not her fault, she provided excellent care.
The food was okay. First, a wedge salad should be an iceberg lettuce head sliced into thirds or quarters, depending on the size of the head. Butter lettuce is far too strong for use in a wedge. Far too much mastication with butter. If iceberg lettuce was in this salad, I couldn't find it. The bacon bits were okay, but not enough to notice that it was part of the dish. The grilled tomatoes were fine. I must take issue with the dressing. It was hard to tell if there was any buttermilk ranch in there, and was there green goddess? The dressing was so bland, I was almost dumping an entire salt shaker onto the salad. I took home the portion that I didn't finish, and will be experimenting with adding something to the remaining dressing to render a spot of flavour.
Second, the chicken schnitzel. Ah, the schnitzel. With greens, no less. Unfortunately, the chicken was very dry, the panko crust was burnt all around the edges, with only the center not blackened, and while the flavour was okay, the dryness really took me out of appreciating the dish. I had high hopes, but alas, they were dashed on a rocky, rocky shore.
While there were no pull-apart rolls available at the time of my seating, that's understandable. I couldn't get a reso until 9:30, so whatever. But if I wanted dessert, I was SOL. I'm not a chocolate person, and the butterscotch budino and the toasted meringue were sold out. I get it. You don't want unsold product at the end of the service, so only so much is made for the day. First come, first served. No worries. It's just disappointing after such a meal. I'm also anaphylactic to alcohol, and the selection of non-alcoholic beverages was also disappointing. I realize that this is a brewery, but even a brewery restaurant needs to realize that guests may not be able to partake in alcoholic beverages, and a larger selection of non-alcoholic drinks should be available. No iced tea, a tiny selection of craft sodas, and water were my only choices.
I believe the kitchen was having a bit of a time there, as it took over an hour to get my schnitzel, and if I'd finished my salad, I wouldn't have been able to eat my main dish. Since there were no rolls left by that time of night, it would have been nice to have dessert available for me, but again, late seating, so nothing available that I desired. Finally, I was surprised to see the salt was iodized table salt and not crystalized sea salt or kosher salt with the larger grains. I haven't seen iodized table salt in a restaurant since the 1990s. Quite an odd throwback.
I was really wanting to enjoy my experience. I really wanted to have an excellent meal, but unfortunately for a late seating, I couldn't count on anything else but great service. I'm sad that I couldn't say I had a great meal. You might also want to fix your online reso system to allow resos for 1, as right now it only allows for 2 or more in the reso. I had to call to have...
Read moreMyself and my 4 adult children ate at the new four winds on September 8th. I was stoked to eat there because I love their OG restaurant and we are regulars there (right by the Tilbury Rink). At the New Four Winds: Our service was great, the place is absolutely beautiful, and full of light. Love the ambiance. Our food was not good. I ordered the Oyster Po'Boy and I could not even tell the small, dried up pieces in my sandwich were oysters. For the price, it should have been chock full of plump, juicy, delicious oysters. I took one "oyster" out of the bun and cut it in half and it still did not seem like an oyster. The fries were not good either, so I was not happy with the meal. The sauce on the Po'boy was a little tasty but not enough to save the meal. If I was them I would go with a new type of French Fries completely. I am not a white spot fan but at least they nailed good fries. I also ordered the Mussels and they were decent but not great. All my kids got fish and chips and for the price, it was not good. To be fair, we are all foodies, and we seek out the most amazing food. We also fish halibut and cod and make homemade fish and chips. Ours are so good! We are particular to be sure. We all left disappointed. My daughters had already been there once and they did not like their food the first time. We are all hoping they iron out the kinks so we can go back for good food!! Put some of your killer tostados and Tacos on the menu. You do those well. I have heard many people say to me - there were no tacos on the menu! I think people were looking forward to good tacos in T Town. I noticed Pat Quinn's was not tasty at all for the first few years, and every now and then we go back and I have a few good meals there in the past 2 years; I have High Hopes for 4Winds to up their food game!!! The Tacos at the OG spot are usually amazing. I don't think I have ever had bad food at the original restaurant. A few things to note for the owners though: You seem overstaffed or at least you were Sept. 8th. Lots of young staff standing in groups, not seeming to know what to do - this is a management issue. One bathroom for everyone. I have travelled quite a bit, this is normal in lots of areas of the world but usually there is a choice b/t a bathroom for everyone And one for women, one for men. We sat right next to the bathroom and a man walked in on a little girl when she was out of her stall but pulling up her clothes. She looked shocked and a bit scared. For all the "woke" people shaming others who think little kids should be subjected to this, grab a brain cell. There are always 2 sides, As a rule, everyone welcome bathrooms do not bother me but let's be sensible and acknowledge this can also be an uncomfortable and sometimes even dangerous situation for young children.... Unfortunately nefarious people do exist, so please stop shaming the people who are NOT supportive of "mixed" bathrooms. We all saw the little girls face, and we all...
Read moreStopped in here for some drinks and food. The building is beautiful and it's in a neat spot. We joked with the server about the lack of beach (not an actual complaint, just funny). Beer flights are 3's, which is kind of weird. Especially since there's a lot of options. Food was alright, on the pretty good side. I liked the fries that came with my burger, it's a better burger than the other location. My friend liked her cheese and bread dish. We would have maybe liked some more mid-level food. They're trying for upscale and it works, except... It's not a big deal if they're going to allow kids, however, it does seem that they're trying to draw a different crowd. When we were just about done, a family with two small children were sat right next to us. There had been other kids around, that wasn't a problem. These kids were LOUD. We asked if we could move over to the other side of the fire, which I realize is a pain and I hate that a server would have to clean an extra table, but it was already really loud in there and these yelling kids were making conversation really difficult. We were grateful they allowed us to shuffle over, however, not long after that, the kids started running around like a track in the area and yelling. Nothing was done other than shut the fire off (I'm guessing that's why they shut it off?) which was really unfortunate as my friend has Reynaud's and doesn't do well when it's chilly. The parents sat and ate their meal while the children ran around disturbing everyone and everyone was looking around in frustration. We left pretty quickly after that as I didn't want my friend to get chilly and it was so loud. I wish someone had stepped in. If they are going to allow the bar to turn into a playground, maybe they should have some adult areas where we can not have to listen to that. It's hard enough when it's so loud, but no one wants to listen to that. Sounds like a typical McDonald's, which is a shame because it's so nice in there. Other than that, they have merch (of which I didn't buy any) but beer and such is 10% off when you have your bill. Bathrooms were clean, would have been nice if there were paper towels. I'd probably go back,...
