This review is based on two visits within 30 days. The first visit was better than the second.
Note: We asked friends if we should try this place and they said "You should try it, they have some good stuff, but be prepared to wait."
1st visit: We ordered some pizza and cheesy garlic bread. We waited roughly 40 minutes (around 4pm) for the order to be ready. We called ahead and then drove in and waited at the store to pick it up. We thought at the time that was a very long time to wait for pizza.
Regardless, we went home and ate and were super pleased with the food. Both the pizza and cheesy garlic bread were absolutely excellent. Our only complaint was the time we had to wait for it.
2nd visit: We decided to each try the Poutine. We ordered online and the wait time said 20-40 minutes. It was again around 4pm. We knew this time to wait a little bit before we drove in, so we arrived roughly 30 minutes after ordering thinking it 'might' be ready when we arrive or worst case scenario we have to wait 10 minutes there.
Unfortunately, we waited 1 hour and 14 minutes total for our poutine, from time of ordering to when it reached my hand at the counter. I have waited less time at fancy sit down restaurants and have been served 3 course meals and left in the same amount of time I waited. It was probably the longest I've ever waited for food in my life, and it was just 2 poutines. I almost asked for a refund, I couldn't believe it.
I could 'maybe' justify it if the poutine was amazing as the pizza. Unfortunately, it was by far the worst poutine I've ever had in my life. I was born and raised in Canada, and I've had my fair share of Poutines in the last 35 years, so you can imagine my disappointment realizing I was eating the worst poutine I have ever had after waiting 1 hour and 14 minutes for it.
I'll attach a photo of it to this review. It was incredibly soupy and drenched in gravy. I didn't think there was such a thing as 'too much gravy', but there is. It was soup. It looked more like a stew than anything. I've never experienced anything like it.
Needless to say, after this second visit, realizing how long we waited the first time, second time, and then the disappointment of the food the second time... we won't be returning. Which is a shame, because the pizza was very good our first visit.
I think operationally things need to change there. I can forgive the bad poutine and just order something else next time, but the thing that will keep me from returning in the future is actually the wait time we experienced during both visits. No refund, apology, gift certificate or free future order is required or will fix anything. What's required is an operational change to become more efficient so the NEXT person visiting doesn't have to experience a crazy long wait. Either the process needs to change, or the wrong people are hired.
I hope this advice is taken as constructive criticism and not some angry customer. I'm not angry, I just want to see businesses do good in this city long-term. If I didn't care and didn't want to see things improve, I wouldn't write...
Read moreUPDATE: really disappointed that Salvatoré has taken the Jumbo New York Style Pepperoni pizza off the menu. Somehow they've managed to progressively worsen this pizza over the last few months. The crust is done less well, not paper thin anymore, the marinara has lost its zip, and yet the prices remain really high. It used to be that I forgave the high cost because the pizza was good but the quality and the offering has deteriorated immensely... There is nothing special about the NY style pizza. It's not any more special than other pizzerias anymore, and their pizza is cheaper. I'll be ordering elsewhere now.
OLD REVIEW: The pizza we love most from Salvatoré is the Jumbo New York Style Pepperoni. I've been to NYC plenty of times and have always been disappointed not to be able to find a decent paper-thin slice. Now, suddenly in Dieppe New Brunswick (the least likely of places I would have assumed) there is a pizzeria offering the closest thing to a New York slice I've had anywhere outside of NYC. Love, love, love it. The only thing that stings is the price: it's definitely higher than other pizza spots which has caused my wife and I to consider ordering elsewhere and only saving Salvatoré for more special occasions. We'd love if our favourite pizza was a bit more affordable, especially now with how the cost of everything is just too much to bear. But this is a grade-A slice,...
Read moreAs far as pizza chains go, Salvatore's is my go-to. And this location in particular helped a lot in winning me over ✅
Their in-person service is commendable. I'm often greeted with respect and friendliness. The mobile app is pretty straightforward to use. There are often special deals or freebies on the app that are actually still valuable, even in the current economic times.
The pizza is great, love their sauce and they don't skimp on the toppings for sure. Asking for extra sauce is free, as it universally should be. Pizza orders usually come with a free dipping sauce. It's a small thing but considering other chains out there don't offer free sauce, it's a steal 🤯
I've had their poutines before too, and those are also great. Their gravy is rather generic but it does the job and obviously they use Quebec curds. The Tao Poutine is a fan favourite for a reason.
So if you're a Greco, PD, BP, Doms, Hut, Cesars, or Pizza Pizza chain pizza person and haven't heard of or tried Salvatore's yet, you're missing out. I promise you you're not signing up for cheese covered...
