Went to Gahan House Saturday night as it was the last day of Fredericton's Burger Battle. About a 30 minute wait to get in, which I expected. Staff was very accommodating to text us when a table was ready. My boyfriend and I each ordered the Burger Battle burger; I assume many people were. When our plates came, mine was dressed top to bottom in condiments - except there was NO BURGER on the bun (see photos). The server was quick to take it back and replace it, and exclaimed that the kitchen was embarrassed. My boyfriend began eating his and realized it was RED inside (not medium rare.....Red). Again, she took it back and expressed apology and said "we will take care of your beers tonight". We both had finished our first beer by this time and ordered a second - when the server outwardly asked me if she had said "we will cover your first round" or if she had said otherwise. I said there was no mention of "first round only".. I have eaten at Gahan house twice previously without incident, but we were very disappointed by several aspects of our visit this time. It's very important to me to support local downtown business and I expect more from this...
Read moreThe food was delicious! We took chicken curry which was absolutely tasty. The service was shared between two people: a guy that was very nice and a lady who seemed so at first. She took the order, but the guy served us and was more with us a little bit. Then we asked to pay, she comes with the bill, we pay cash with 100$ for s bill of 60$ and we said to bring back 30$, so we would leave 10$, which is 16% tipp. To me it is ok considering she was not even the person who served us. She repeated, so I owe you 13$?? We said no twice and repeated the number 30$. SHE COMES BACK WITH 13$… We are shocked. How can she not understand what we repeated both twice, even saying each number 3..0… individually…We say it again and then she looks annoyed and finally comes back with the amount we asked. This is awkward and bad! She should know that leaving 50% tipp, 27$ is too much for a service she did not give herself (her colleague served us)! I understand tipp is important, but this is going too far, thinking we don’t understand english or we won’t dare to ask for the right amount. Again, food was amazing, but the last interaction was...
Read moreAfter going a total of 4-5 times, I have a mixed feeling about Gahan House. The first time I went around opening, I had some amazing food with really good portion sizes, but the second time, a few weeks later, it wasn't as good and some of the portions for the appetizers seemed a lot smaller. I ended up going a few more times with friends, but it seems like the quality keeps going down.
I'm not sure why this happened, but for a place that's a bit more expensive than normal pub food (few dollars more), I'd expect the quality to be there.
For example, the burger was perfectly cooked the first time I had it and fries seasoned perfectly, but the next time I had it, the burger was overcooked and the fried under seasoned. The first time I had the calamari, there was plenty to share between three people, but the second time we got a lot less.
Gahan beer is very good tho, and this is the only place I can think of where you can get a full selection of Gahan beer. I recommend the Blueberry ale (tastes like blueberry pie but not to sweet) and the Sir John A.
The crab dip is one of the best crab dip I've had. It has a very nice...
