We decided to go in rather than the drive thru. We placed our order at the kiosk and got no receipt...no big deal. It's happened to me at other restaurants. We wait. We wait. We wait some more. As we waited, we found out that no kiosks had receipts and even the pay counter had none. Kinda hard to know when your order comes up and no one knows their number. Finally our order comes. 2 things missing. I told the server we still needed a cone and strawberry pie. She quickly got the cone but it was very sloppily done and then I reminded her about the pie. She looked frustrated with me and then proceeded to get into an argument with someone who I could only guess was the manager. (Not professional to do in front of customers). No one came to give me my pie when finally another customer told the server at the drive thru that I was waiting for my pie and that everyone was ignoring me ..which was true. He graciously got my pie. We were in there 20 minutes easily. When we got out and went to our car, we realized the car we would have been behind in the drive thru had just reached the speaker to order. Worst service I have ever seen or experienced in a McDonalds. It seemed everyone was waiting on their orders for a long time. For such a prominent location just across the border from Ontario, it needs to...
Read moreThis location was filled with gossiping young women working there, giggling, etc. It's nice to see people who enjoy their work, but I didn't like the way they treated me. I spoke in english, not thinking someone might take issue. This lady behind me (who turned out to work there, but must have been on break because she was just sitting in the seating area (not eating)) said loudly in french after I spoke 'She speaks english??' And repeated that a few times like there was something wrong with me and she couldn't believe I spoke in english. I switched to french (as best I could), but then my server was talking about it to the girl who said it and was talking to the other girls who worked there about it. I had no idea why it was a big deal. The girl who served me understood me fine in english, so it's not like they needed to find someone to translate. Plus I can speak enough french to at least order food. They were talking really fast, so I didn't catch all of what they said, but the tone made it sound like they were making fun of the fact I had spoken in english. They all kept saying,'She speaks english. 'She speaks english.' to each other. Not sure why it was such a big deal, but I didn't feel welcome, so I will not...
Read moreI was in Ottawa for business and one evening I drove around to see what the city looked like. I crossed the bridge into Gatineau and saw the McDonald's. Realizing I was a little hungry I went in and ordered a burger.
When I first walked up to the counter, the girl behind the register greeted me in French. I don't speak French but am also a little hard of hearing, and didn't really understand that she was speaking in French at first so I said, "Excuse me"? She seemed annoyed that I didn't know French and her countenance changed. She went dark, her brow furrowed, and she repeated herself in French.
In my Texas accent, I said, "I'm sorry, but I'm not from around here. I'm from Texas and I don't understand French very well. Can we do this in English?". She immediately brightened up. It was like she recognized that I was a famous celebrity or something. She smiled big and said, "Oh. No problem! You can order in English!"
That's where I learned that if I am a Canadian that doesn't understand French then I am a rotten a sinner of some sort; but since I am a Texan who doesn't understand French, then I am more than fine.
I still gave it 5 stars because she was way friendly once she knew I was not a...
