The Chicken Shack & Pizza Pi — Restaurant in Glace Bay

Drove from Ontario to visit family in Glace Bay and decided to order food as I was tired and didn't feel like cooking.

From the reviews and write up this appeared to be a good, well established long time owned local family establishment so I ordered 3 different small pizzas and a large garlic slice pizza for pickup and told that it would be 30 to 35 minutes. 30 minutes. 30 minutes later when I arrived I was told it might be about another 10 mins. The lady at the till was friendly and not at all hard on the eyes and the delivery drivers I talked to as they came and went while I waited were friendly. This is the best part of my experience. My order was wrong. I ordered 3 small and received and paid for 3 mediums but the correct size garlic slice pizza without debate as I was tired, hungry and understand stuff happens when it's busy at a pizza place. I assume that this place is no longer run by the family that established it and that the cook has little to no experience cooking pizzas. The cheese hadn't browned which converts and releases the sugars so it doesn't taste salty and dropped from the pan to the pizza stone early also resulting in almost burnt bottom crust and huge burnt cheese bubbles along the outer crust inside edges. The sauce on my Hawaiian was bland and almost none existent My wife's south west chicken pizza was nothing like a south western North America pizza but so hot it reminded me of the spice South Western India. Not good for anyone familiar with the North American expectations. She doesn't mind some heat but this was not to hear pallett and I enjoy and cook Indian, jerk and other international spicy recipes but even I found this not appetizing. I hope the cook and the assumed newer owner takes this criticism as useful advice and knowledge rather than feeling slighted. I have over 40 years of experience with various international culinary recipes with close to 5 years at very well known, highly rated, long term family owned Italian food and pizza establishment in Bowmanville in South Eastern Ontario. Sadly closed after the owner retired and sold his establishment and the new owner took it a different direction and failed. I hope this place learns and gets better but my experience has got me looking into possibly moving this way to takeover an available and already established restaurant here and bringing my better half and my vast experience of well known, delicious takes on everything from basic to classy meals unlike anyone else's. Last time we will ever order from this place.

A few months ago we ordered delivery and was told it would be around 40 minutes. It ended up being close to 3 hours. Refused the food at the door, and called them to say why. Woman who answered was rude, and told us it was just made before it was sent out. Ignoring the fact that I called her numerous times already while waiting, and she told me the food was finished and waiting for the delivery driver. 2 hours prior to me calling this time.

We decided to give this place another shot, and ordered a 2-piece snack & the XL Pizza with 20 Wings combo. Got here in a decent time, but they forgot to send the wings. When we called them, the woman who answered was very rude, going as far as to call us liars, saying they were sure they sent it. After insisting that they did not send it, and that the bag they sent the 2-piece snack in wasnt even large enough to fit anything else in, they finally sent it. Additional 40 minute wait to get our full order.

I can understand if it's busy and a mistake was made, but calling your paying customers liars is...

I went there with my spouse and it was our first dining experience in Glacebay as we moved from Ontario. The ladies working there were too rude especially the one who was wearing red glasses. We ordered popcorn chicken there and it was beyond salty and no one was agreeing . We let taste with our friends too thought that it might us only thinking every one said same and they said that’s why the whole batter was. It was so salty that u can throw up after that. We did not taste it , we did not take it even with us and they still charge us. They were not even apologetic and empathetic . Pathetic customer service and awful experience .
