I don't really know where to begin with this one. We had to come here as it was the only restaurant in Gore Bay. The patio on the upper level is nice enough. We ordered the nachos, two burgers, and a poutine. The poutine never came and I was glad that it didn't.

The nachos were stale and very tasteless, I don't know if someone forgot to check the bag??? Or maybe they don't make them often, but they were not good. We were starving so I suppose they were edible.

The burgers were alright but nothing special. Like I mentioned the poutine never came so I can't review that.

Halfway through our meal, a lady from another table started to argue with the owner. This was really tense and was really awkward.

At this point we needed something to salvage the meal, so we ordered the "waffle tower". Erm, it left something to be desired. The owner asked for our opinion and we gave it, there were way too many cherries on it and it was really sour and not sweet enough for a dessert at all.

After this, we went downstairs to pay and the aforementioned lady had walked into the kitchen and was yelling at the owner. The owner kept asking her to leave and a yelling match ensued. This was very weird, we were just trying to pay for our dinner.

Albeit this, the owner was kind and was understanding hence the 2 star rating and not a 1 star rating.

This the only place to eat, so maybe have something that the other reviews recommend but not the nachos or the...

When the Codmother's was still at its original location, it was one of our fav places to go and eat. Not so much anymore. Today, we ended up walking out without ordering. Coming in, there is no sign asking to wait to be seated. So, we wandered in (unfortunately, the patio was closed for some reason) and were sharply told to 'wait by the door'... the waitress had to 'see about tables'. There were 2 booths occupied and possibly one table that needed cleaning up. There were plenty of free tables.

After ringing up a pick-up order and a check-in with people already seated, she directed us to a table. She then brought menus and let us know that they were short staffed and there were no 'main meals'. Alrighty. She then took water to the booth next to ours, had a chit chat, and walked into the back. Came back out and verified an order for the booth on the other side of us and walked into the back again. No asking if we were ready to order, no offering of water, or taking a drink order.

At that point, I just didn't feel that our business was really needed or wanted and we left. Went to Campbell's instead, awesome service, great burgers,...

So, I've had take-out from this place, multiple times in the last almost 3 years. They were a treat with there amazing poutines, everytime we were in gore bay they were the take out place we HAD to go to. They have cheese curds which is rare on the island. I thought there food was amazing then, but now its absolutely fantastic! We just recently moved out of mindemoya and to Kagawong and it's my go to. There pizza is fabulous, I'd eat the crust on it's own. burgers are just the right amount of greasy, ordered a bacon cheese burger and they dont cheap out on the bacon and we ordered chili cheese chips, I believe that's what they call them. They had a southern fried chicken family deal, the chicken was the best fried chicken I ever had. Tonight we ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese two can dine, and I'm not one for mushrooms really hate them actually and I honestly usually always ask if it has mushrooms this time I didn't but they have never disappointed so I picked them out and it was really good! Im glad I didnt ask or I wouldnt of been able to try it! We always order mozza sticks and they never disappoint. Staff is...

First time visiting the area. Location is cute! Small inside, but there is a patio up a (third) set of stairs. We ordered at the front and then told them we were going to the patio with our dog. The young waitress was great, except that she came upstairs to tell us our food was ready at the front, rather than bringing it to us? When initially ordering, another waitress told me it was going to be a long wait, which I was okay with. Immediately after agreeing, she told the younger waitress to “pick up the pace” right in front of me. I stood there for another 5-10 minutes before they even asked me what I wanted. I assume they were hoping I would just leave? Fish was alright, large pieces. Fries were bland, but alright. Coleslaw was good. Super cute fish statue out front.

Absolutely delicious! I worked at The Olde Yorke Fish & Chips in Toronto for five years, and I take my fish and chips very seriously. The Codmothers' haddock and cod were quite possibly the freshest, tastiest fish I've ever had. The batter was light, flaky, and deep fried to perfection. The onion rings were made fresh to order and had a perfect ring-to-batter ratio. We rounded out our meals with a selection of beer from the local Split Rail Brewery, all of which were full of flavour and complemented our food very well. A few of the reviews made me a little nervous to come here, but I'm so thrilled we decided to give it a try anyway. This was exactly what we were looking for and we couldn't be happier. Thank you, Codmother!
