Hamachi Kita Sushi & Asian Flare — Restaurant in Halifax

Man... this has been our "go to" place for good Sushi for many years; but tonight...? Oh man.

We got in and were seated immediately, but soon after I had to use the restroom.

It was occupied so I waited outside. (Only 1 restroom, whatever.) Before I hear the tap running, as it does when someone washes their hands, the door opens and it's an employee. Stocky, Asian dude with the blue bandana.

Ok, whatever, maybe I didn't hear him wash his hands. I go in. Toilet seat = down. Urine all over the seat and a puddle of urine on the floor.

Ok... So either A; he sees this, doesn't care, urinated anyway (because trust me, no one was sitting on that seat) and then didn't wash his hands. Or B; he left the mess and didn't wash his hands.

Either way, we left. As he was prepping food behind the counter.

So disappointing as their food has been so good. You can't beat their Bento Box but...

Extremely long wait time to even get noticed. After that, you get to wait longer to get a menu. This is a theme at this restaurant. Every interaction with the server will result in at least 15 minutes before you see them again. Got a drink that wasn’t made correctly, no problem. Got another, no issues whatsoever. Was here with three small children (2 of them under 5) fed them pad see ew. They loved it. After finally receiving all food we enquired about a dessert menu, they said there wasn’t one. All good, let’s gtvthe ice cream. After receiving our bill we noticed gratuity was included. “Tables of 6 get it automatically included”. So the kids counted I guess. Beware of very disparate pricing here. The ice cream was $6, while a lobster sushi was $8. This wasn’t noticed because of the absence of a dessert menu. Food was decent, not worth the wait time, or weirdness of...

Place looked nice, staff were friendly and accommodating (nothing over the top) food was quick, but rather tasteless or lacking flavour. Had the miso soup, shrimp tempura and a spicy salmon roll, soup was watery with giant chunks of green onion with very small tofu pieces, also the seaweed was rolled and hard in the soup. The roll wasn’t spicy and wasn’t special, and the tempura reminded me of a fish and chips more than tempura. Also friend of mine got the udon seafood broth and said it was great but never tasted the same every time they ordered it. Overall not worth paying 75$ for an average meal for 2. Not to mention the bathroom/ hallway to bathroom and staff rooms was disgusting, your feet stuck to the floor, there was grime everywhere and I don’t want to image what there...
