Captain Mike's Fish and Chips — Restaurant in Hamilton

Just ate here since the new owners took over. Talk about good food. This HAS to be the best place for fish and chips in Hamilton.

A two piece haddock with fries and a drink is $13.99. You get fish that flakes off and a light batter. Compare this to the slop you get served at Hutches for around the same price. For a two piece platter you also get home made tartar sauce, instead of those little packets of processed tartar sauce other places give you. Additionally, the fries are cooked to perfection, and you can taste it.

The atmosphere is great and clean. The owner is very friendly, and is clearly passionate about making sure his food is good. If he is in, you can be sure that the food will be a 10/10. They also have girl guide cookies for sale, showing their support for the local community. Again compare this to other places in Hamilton, who are selfish and don't care about the community.

I have the unfortunate luck to not have this as my local fish and chips place, but even driving here from Parkdale is worth it. We as Hamiltonians need to STOP paying for overpriced fish at other locations. Mike's Fish and Chips is a similar price with a much better...

Would give no stars if I could. Rating is for the restaurant not the food as I was unable to even try it! Pre ordered for Good Friday 4 days in advance. Pick up time was for 5pm. Got there at 4:45 to be about 35th in line outside. A lady right in front of me (34th in line) that ordered by phone at 3pm that day had her name called and was served way before those who ordered days in advance. Finally I went to the door at 6:15, still about 17th in line, to inquire if my order would be soon. After looking through the door and seeing around 15 customers inside the small area as well as many employees I decided not to even inquire as it would be putting my family's health at risk during a pandemic with so many people in such close proximity. Drove to Swiss Chalet instead and got fish and chips fast and didn't even have to leave my vehicle. So no rating for the food but 0 stars for service/organisation. If this is the service during a health pandemic I can't imagine how chaotic it would be on a "normal" Good Friday with even...

Read bad reviews so my husband and I were hesitant to try this place out, except from the moment we stepped in the owners made us feel so welcomed. He changed the channel so my son could watch Tree House, closed the door to accommodate us since we were a little cold (despite the fact that the kitchen area was much hotter thus the reason they had the door opened in the first place). We had the Haddock Platter and fish was perfectly cooked- batter was crunchy but not over done and the fish was moist. Portion size was very good and the price was reasonable. After speaking with the owners (who appear to be a husband and wife team), we found out they were the new owners who took over the restaurant in August 2015.
