We stayed at Friday harbour at a friends place. We stayed with the hopes of purchasing our own unit. I’m so disappointed with my experience. It is far from a ‘resort’. When we arrived on a Sunday the hot water and air conditioning in the building was out. Luckily it was not too hot outside so we stayed comfortably… for the first two days. Hot water was fixed over night however it is now day three, 32 degrees out, and air conditioning has not been fixed. and to be honest I haven’t seen a single person working on it - I’d be even more upset if I were the one paying condo fees for this. Our friends have been contacting maintenance and are doing everything they can for us but it is not their fault and friday harbour should be more concerned with the issue.
Aside from that. As a ‘guest’ I am not welcome to use some of amenities, like the pool or the reserved beach area for home owners only… I haven’t even tried the gym but I’m assuming that’s out too. They are not doing guest passes “at this time” for the pool. So I have watched three days go by, where life guards and staff are working at a pool and splash pad area without a single guest entering. I watched an attendant block and area of beach chairs for not a single human to use one. I do think homeowners should have perks for owning their spot, but isn’t ‘enjoying Friday harbour everyday’ supposed to be a perk itself? I would also understand needing to purchase a day pass, that’s absolutely fair. But not even an option. Am I such a menace to society that as a renter from a homeowner I can not use the pool. From what I’ve learned, for the homeowner to allow me to use the pool, they have to fill out tons of paper work and it is a $300 fee.
I also think it is important to note that few things are open mondays and Tuesday. Very limited restaurants, so if you’re looking to experience those, avoid coming early in the week.
Safe to say I’m glad I came and saw because I will not be purchasing my vacation home here. The lack of urgency with the air conditioner and hot water is insane. And I would not want my guests to feel like peasants when renting my space and not be ‘allowed’ to even swim….. especially when the air conditioner isn’t working and it’s 32...
Read moreWe’ve been patrons of this restaurant several times over the years, not because the food is exceptional, but because there’s a beautiful view of The lake and it’s usually not busy (says something). Tonight my family and I went to the restaurant. We were being lead to outlet seats, when staff member stormed out towards us and told us we had to wait to be seated, all the while not seeing the hostess leading us to the table. Clearly, on a power trip, she demanded we go back and start from the beginning. When we showed her the hostess, she backed off. At that point we should have walked away but for the kids sake we stayed. Our server was lovely. She was professional and happy. After ordering outer meal, the same “kitchen boss” came out to inform us that there were no vegetarian burgers and that the menu we had was old. She offered a 30 dollar cauliflower dish, only to come out 5 minutes later in the company of another “boss,” to tell us that they found a veggie burger. Needless to say they messed up a burger (don’t know how that happens) and instead of doing the right thing, they literally scrapped the mistake off only to present it as a “new” burger a minute later. No joke. The second “boss”apologized for The terrible service and promised to make everything better. We never saw him again. What a joke. With the exception of the hostess and our great server (Shayla), the supervisors really need a refresher in customer service 101. We can all differentiate between good service and bad and this was terrible. I can see this restaurant folding soon. Word of advice to Tge resort, if this restaurant is The resort’s and not a private one, do yourselves a favour and make it private or change management soon. The decor and location is really all this place has going. And at the rate of expansion, Friday Harbour has so many better restaurants to spend money and time at, without having to be demoralized and humiliated by an overly zealous, power hungry,...
Read moreDrove an hour to visit Friday Harbour and try this restaurant with a water view on their patio and watch the sunset back in July. Turns out the water front is in front of a small beach area and not really an amazing waterfront view at all. I think the view was better when we walked by the other restaurants area as this location is more secluded away from the main Friday Harbour area. Also the sunset was way on the other side of the restaurant patio, blocked by buildings.
We had reservations and had to wait a few minutes for our table. After we were seated it took about 10 minutes for someone to come place cutlery and water. It took another almost 10 minutes for the manager to find a server to serve us. There was a manager checking everyone was ok but few servers around, lots of bussers bringing out food and clearing plates though.
We finally ordered these dishes which actually came out very fast: Oysters Fogo Island Cod Chilli Fennel Tuna 👌 Calamares Fritos💕
The oysters had a nice presentation on a raised Platter with smoke. The other 3 dishes were a generous portion and flavour profiles were very good and worked well for each dish. Favourites were the Tuna and Calamari which were both seasoned and very tasty. The Calamari was a perfect crunchy on the outside and soft with a nice bite on the inside. The atmosphere was peaceful but also it could have used a bit louder music, there was barely any on and you could hear other guests talking at their tables even though we were quite away from the larger parties (at least 15 ft away from them)
As soon as the sun went down there were about half a million bugs on the patio especially if you look up at the pot lights. We tried to get out of there asap after dessert but the service again was super slow and I was being eaten alive. Make note to bring bug spray if you plan to sit...
