The highlight of visiting Kapuskasing. I'd visit every year growing up whilst visiting the family. Very consistent flavour and quality over the years. Love this place.
A few cons: On a couple occasions while dining in, a beef dish we like to order sometimes comes out over cooked, chewy, and inedible. Expected from a small town, the restaurant owners fight back at our request to bring out a new dish or a full refund, and that they were only willing to take a few dollars off the beef dish at best. With myself having experience working in the restaurant industry, you could never get away with that in the city. Whenever you have a small complaint they can be downright rude and defensive. Just make your customer happy and bring out a fresh dish - if I'm saying it's terrible, it's terrible. I've been here enough times. Secondly, if you want to thoroughly enjoy AYCE, you have to arrive pretty much for 4:45PM for a table and fresh food. Otherwise you're out of luck, no tables and limited food selection. I much prefer ordering take-out.
My favourite are the deep fried wings and chicken fried rice. Egg rolls, wonton soup and chicken balls are also great. Always creating great memories at Thong La's with the family. Aside from a few negative experiences over the years, I hope they...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst place you could decide to order from. The waitresses are so ridiculously rude it sounds like they're from a TV sitcom. There's one that yells so loud at you, you're on the phone for 3 minutes and get a headache. They have awful customer service just screaming at you telling you youre wrong. I wanted to re order the proper things but i was terrified she was going to spit in it. Ended up not eating any of my food i had already received i completly lost all interest in the food and my appetite. I asked her to contact her boss as she continued stating "im just a waitress i cant do anything" she would not contact her boss if her life depended on it. Ive never been so distraught, dissapointed & frustrated after speaking to a waitress, she wouldnt help me in anyway shape or form. I will not be ordering from thong las from now on. They do not deserve my money if my money is going towards that awful customer service....
Read moreThe only reason Thong La's still operates is because there's no competition to speak of, or a healthy alternative. The staff is nice, with the minimal interaction I had with the takeout, but the food itself just does not cut it. The fried rice I ordered was nice for Northern Ontario, and that's the highest praise I can give to this charade of Asian cuisine. The other dishes are such disappointments in flavour that I felt bad for the people who have only experienced Asian cuisine like this. I would not recommend it to anyone from out of town who has had asian cuisine of any kind, especially if they're people who have come to Canada from Asia and have higher expectations with flavour and authenticity. But for anyone who's grown up thinking this is passable Asian takeout, I guess it...
