I'll start off by saying I've practically grown up on donairs being the go to take out food in my life. I grew up near four donair shops within walking distance. So I think I am okay in judging what is or isn't a great donair.
This donair place is a weird one for me. I wouldn't call it a donair by any aspect. More of a pita wrap or Gyro. The menu is confusing, but I am also dyslexic and moving clutter menus are a weak point for me.
Ordered the jumbo chicken, chicken breast was used. So that was dry, majority of establishments use thigh. For the tender, moisture retention and price.
Veggies where half small diced, half sliced. I ask for everything. The pickles where a nice touch.
I added salt and pepper I had the hot sauce, tzasiki sauce, and dill sauce.
When eating I noticed the pita was not your usual pita, it was very dry with little snap or crunch. Almost like gluten free bread if you've had it.
For $18 I understand where majority of the price goes into the donair. Chicken breast, prep time, multiple heating elements ( salamander , panini press, Baine Marie where used.)
The overall pita was dry and lacked salt in the products, despite the addition of S&P PIckles, banana peppers and jalapeños, plus sauces.
The associate was friendly.
This place would be great for anyone with dietary...
Read moreSo ordered my food at 12:00 pm for take out, $29.00 order. Lady said 5 minutes for the food to be ready. Waited while it was being prepared and a rush of high school kids came in by 12:05. It was so rammed there you couldn't move. My food was partially ready and was waiting for shrimps and order of small fries too but it never came. By 12:35 I went to the front after plummeting through the crowd of kids to be told that the shrimps will be ready in two minutes. The girl in the front lied! Shrimps were not even in the micro oven they have. So now I have cold food that was handed to me with a crappy sorry that was not genuine all because they chose to serve the kids and pushed my order to the back. 5 minutes in I should have went through the crowed and demanded my food but I gave them benefit of the doubt. BTW the food sucks when its cold. Only reason I didn't do one star is because its partially my fault for not making a stink and letting them continue as they looked overwhelmed. The right thing was to give the food that was sitting for 45minutes in the bag for free since it was ruined. Thanks...
Read moreThere is a holiday offer that gifts you a free can of drink where you write a review. (I am a repeat customer but normally I don't write reviews.)
The employees are nice and occasionally make small talk (not necessary for 5 star), you get a discount if you are a college student. The donair is good, consider as a college student I am mostly eating pre-prepped food.
However, the cons is I felt the yam fries (which loses 1 star), although great, are overpriced. For like the same amount of money I can go to the resturant beside me and get a delicious blueberry drink for similar amounts of money.
The employees are 5 star, but I believe pricing is done from the corporate structure and has nothing to do with the employees.
However, I will bite the bullet and occasionally eat alot of those fantastic fries.
EDIT: The employee just screwed up my order as I wrote the review, I told her about it and she just gave me FULL Yam fries for free. Now I am hesitant to...
