BEWARE THE $38. HALF LITRE OF WINE
so i wasn't very happy about my last experience at the Schomberg Pub so i wrote to them...and they wrote back...you be the judge!!
My family are fairly regular patrons of the Schomberg Pub and not so frequently of 1812. We held my daughters 30th birthday party there on February 26, a party of 16, and our most recent experiences were Friday March 13 and Sunday March 15. On Friday we were a party of two and our server was Kylie. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay it was $7.00. I am not particularly picky when it comes to my Chardonnay, I order it with a glass of ice and a spoon so cold is my priority! It was a fine Chardonnay.
On Sunday we were back with friends and Andrew was our server. I ordered a ½ litre of Chardonnay again with a glass of ice and a spoon – Andrew did ask me if ‘something’ I didn’t really hear him, was OK and I said something like I’m sure it’s fine. He served me a ½ litre of Oyster Bay. Now, I suppose that he told me that he was going to do that, but perhaps if he had said would you like to pay $38.00 for your ½ litre that you are going to water down with ice I might have had an opportunity to say no, I’ll have whatever plonk I was served on Friday.
My husband paid the bill on Sunday and we did not notice this charge until today when reconciling the Visa. I think this is the lowest form of up-selling that there is and it is shameful. I have had Andrew serve us before at 1812, I find him to be very engaging and the service was great, in fact he received about a 20% tip – a tip that he received on the $38.00 ½ litre that he ‘sold’ me as well. Perhaps his server code of BMoney should have been a clue.
I’m not sure what I expect from you but suffice it to say, if nothing is done, I will be very disappointed.
I will wait to hear from you. Hello Jennifer
My Name is Bailey Jackson and I am the GM of The Schomberg Pub. I apologize for the delay in response to your email, I thought at length about how to respond as well as had meetings with both Kylie and Andrew about the subject in question. My staff have confirmed my first notion that this has been a huge misunderstanding. I feel it is imperative that you know that Andrew is a very kind person. He has not been trained to indulge in 'the lowest form of up-selling' nor is it anything remotely close to his nature. The fact of the matter is that we have only one Chardonnay at The Pub and it is a high-end Vintage wine by Oyster Bay. Kylie took your 'house Chardonnay with a side of ice and a spoon' as an indication that you would prefer something a little less expensive and offered you the house white wine which is an Italian Pinot Grigio by Cavallina, while Andrew took your classy appearance and behaviour as an indication that you were more interested in the grape variety that you had requested. He then let you know that the Chardonnay is a vintage wine by Oyster Bay and you confirmed that was what you wanted. Being an avid white wine fan myself I personally am interested in the grape variety and would always go for a Saivignon Blanc but I agree there are times when I am not inclined to spend $38 on a half litre. I feel terrible that you left our establishment with the notion that anyone there was more interested in making money off you than creating a genuinely positive experience for you. I would never hire someone who was like that. Is it a very ugly personality trait and not something we are interested in having on our team.
I hope this will ease your mind and answer any questions you had. If not I would be more than happy to arrange a meeting between you, Andrew and myself to further quash any bad feelings. Andrew felt terrible when I brought this to his attention and I know he is eager to reconcile with you.

One of my favorite things about this place is the music that fills the air as you walk by. It's such a wonderful and uplifting experience to hear the melodies echoing through the streets. The music adds a special touch of positivity to the already vibrant ambiance of Schomberg.

Read moreNot sure what has happened to this place over the last couple of years. Use to be my favorite places in town. The last couple of times I've had their food, very disappointed. I noticed the menu has changed and that should have been my 1st clue. One of my favorite items is no longer available. Tonight I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and a poutine, what a mistake! The sandwich was passable, the poutine was just a straight ugly mess. Whatever "sauce" is used on this is HORRIBLE. I have induldged in poutine in every province and as many places that sell it. This specific one, may take the ranks for the absolute worst. The taste and smell was so unappetizing. The fries were shoestring, the cheese...it kind of melted but the sauce, its absolutely NOT gravy. I've had canned "poutine sauce" better than what this was. I would 100% NOT recommend the poutine or gravy if this is what they call it. This is a small town with limited eating establishments. Once its ruined, not much can be done. I bare this as warning to others. Yes the patio is decent in the summer, and when they have staff, their usually pretty decent. But as far as the food, nothing Ill be writing home about to say the least. The place is unique and a bit on the pricey side for a pub. Definitely find a better way to spend my...
