Our visit to The Main Grill and Ale House was for a formal gathering/celebration. We had a party of 17 and they were happy to book us a reservation well in advance in their private upstairs venue. This was a great option as it was large enough to sit us all without having to squish us together, it also kept our celebration private and intimate. The privacy also came in handy for one of the guests who had a newborn baby that needed extra attention/care away from the crowd. The set-up was a long table, so unless you moved around you would not be able to join in on conversations on the opposite end. Despite this minor inconvenience we were very excited to have the reservation. Thereโs even a private bathroom on the upper level exclusively for those who booked it which we were all thankful for.
We had one primary server who took all our orders and checked up on us, there were also additional servers for running drinks, food and helping with refills but overall it was our primary server who did it all. I was extremely impressed in her ability to handle such a large table, she knew exactly who ordered what and always had orders in/out in a timely fashion. This was even more impressive given the fact she was constantly going up and down a large flight of stairs to serve our private table! She was also kind enough to provide us with utensils and plates for a cake that was brought by our party. She even had our bills split properly without any issue, it was 5 star service all around!
A couple people ordered appetizers and these were brought out in good time, there was also complementary bread which was a nice touch. The main course came in good time as well but this was unfortunately the most disappointing part of the whole experience. The presentation was well enough, but when it came to the taste/quality I would only put it as average at best. My steak was overdone, the quality of beef was average, the mushrooms werenโt great, asparagus was okay and the baked potato was overdone as well. Most of the table seemed relatively happy with their orders though. I found the drink selection to be more than adequate and a definitely highlight of the establishment. Their menu was well balanced as well and not overwhelming with too much to choose from, unfortunately they donโt have this posted online. Their webpage actually hasnโt been updated since 2013 and is still in โunder constructionโ mode. Hopefully they catch up on this.
So overall outstanding service, extremely accommodating business, great drink selection, just fell short on the food. Parking is pretty limited in the immediate frontage area, but if you pop around the corner thereโs plenty by...
ย ย ย Read moreWould love to have tried eating here. We arrived an hour before close, myself, my husband, and our four kids. We were told that they were fully booked up, but it was clear it was BS bc it was only moderately busy, if that. The couple ahead of us was promptly seated, but we were turned away instantly. My gut feeling was that we were maybe too big a group and the waitress wasn't interested in taking care of such a table an hour to closing time. Not that it matters, but today is my birthday as well, it just felt awful. I actually felt like we were turned away possibly because we have kids, it felt very strange. We didn't even question the waitress bc it wasn't worth the fight, I don't feel right giving my business to someone after we felt discriminated against. How strange. I've been to restaurants that serve and welcome guests right up until close. You feel welcome, and well taken care of. That's how a business should treat their patrons. We were polite, and my children are respectful and well behaved, if not, we would not be taking them out. Maybe it's a wait staff specific issue, but we'll never know, bc we'll not be going back...
ย ย ย Read moreFood was ok. But really upset with the service. Questioned about if there was any kidโs menu, staff told me 3 different kid meals that they could do, and I ordered my kid a โburger kid mealโ, asked if they can put tomato, lettuce & pickle, instead of just a โplain burgerโ (which I would expect paying couple dollars on it for extra items), staff said: โyes, can order the kitchen to do itโ
End up, I got charged $19 for a โkid menuโ, including extra $1 for grilled cheddar. Asked the staff how come a kid menu is $19. I answered me that because I wanted โeverything in itโ instead of a plain burger, it is NOT a kid meal anymore, which the staff NEVER mentioned about it when taking my order!
If I do know adding โeverythingโ will make to kid burger meal change into a regular meal on the menu, I may choose something else for my kid instead of picking 1 out of 3 from the kid menu!
Instead of it, they served the core of the tomato in the burger for the โkid mealโ, which I know lots of restaurants would avoid serving that part of the tomato for burger, didnโt expect that on...
