I never write reviews for anything, but the service we received today compelled me to write this. If I could give -100000 for service I would. My wife and I walked into the restaurant at approximately 7:15pm Sunday on a busy weekend (we had seen online that reservations were available at any time). Upon arrival we found the restaurant to be about 75% full. 3 seats were open at the sushi counter, a few tables inside (some 2-seater, some 4-seater), and a few tables in the patio. When we asked for a table of 2 the waitress/hostess said the earliest we could sit was 8pm. We asked if the sushi counter was first come first serve, to which the response was “it’s currently full” (it was not). She then awkwardly hinted for us to wait at the restaurant on the other side of the complex (it was 4 degrees outside and the walk was far) which we decided against. Instead we waited in the restaurant and watched as only one or two of the open seating was filled during our entire dining experience. We were seated promptly at 8pm at one of the open tables that had been empty the entire time and the same woman began with taking our initial drink orders. At this time I also began noticing that some tables near us were experiencing poor service (dirty dishes stacked on tables for long periods, tables without food for over an hour, or food sitting on the sushi counter for lengthy periods before a waiter brought it to the designated table). I noticed that these tables were all handled by our waitress, while the tables handled by others were having a great time. Things went relatively smoothly for a brief moment in the beginning of the meal: we ordered appetizers and got them quickly, but agreed to keep a menu to order entrees after. However, after receiving our appetizers, we would never see that waitress again. Instead, after 30-40 minutes of sitting in front of empty plates, a different waitress came over and apologized for not taking our remaining order. Once this new waitress took our order and got involved, things went swimmingly: she ensured that she would ask the chef to expedite our order and then offered a complimentary mochi ice cream dessert to compensate for the delay. While the second waitress was pleasant and professional, the initial waitress (who happened to be the manager) was extremely rude and unwelcoming in more ways than I have the patience to write in this review. The food quality was very good and the restaurant had the right ingredients for an excellent experience, but I can’t stress enough that the manager of this place ruins the entire experience. We found out her name is Roxanne and as a former waiter I normally give restaurant staff the benefit of the doubt, but Roxanne made...
Read moreOur visit to Ekki Sushi last night was incredibly disappointing. We arrived just after 8:00 p.m. with high hopes, drawn in by glowing online reviews. Walking up to the restaurant and stepping inside, we were impressed—the decor is stunning. Things started off well; we were seated promptly, and our drinks and appetizers arrived quickly.
Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there. By 9:30 p.m., we still hadn’t received our main courses—just two sushi rolls, which we had assumed wouldn’t take long. We could see that the kitchen was busy with a large table’s order and a sizable takeout request, which we understood. However, more than an hour passed after our appetizers before anyone checked on us or acknowledged the delay. Meanwhile, the table next to us, which had placed the initial large order, had time to order additional food and receive it before we got our meals. It became clear that higher-value orders were being prioritized over ours.
At this point, our server finally apologized and brought us some edamame as a gesture, which was appreciated but felt too little, too late. As we watched the kitchen still working on the large takeout order, we asked our waitress if we could just pay for what we had eaten and leave. She checked with the staff and returned to offer us our food to go instead.
We paid the bill—grateful for the discount they provided—picked up our food, and left. Seven minutes later, we arrived home and opened our meals around 10:00 p.m., two hours after we had arrived at the restaurant. To our frustration, the order appeared to be incorrect. We tried calling the restaurant, but since it was late, the number routed to the affiliated resort instead. My husband had to drive back to sort things out in person.
It turned out that the order was technically correct, but my vegetarian rolls had been mixed in with my husband’s non-vegetarian rolls, which looked nearly identical (see photo - two rows of sweet potato alternated with 2 rows of eel). Given that our waitress knew I was vegetarian, we were disappointed that they weren’t packaged separately.
While the ambiance and initial service were great, the disorganization and lack of communication left us with a frustrating experience.
In addition to this, one of the washrooms was quite dirt, the toilet unusable. I would have mentioned this to the staff of they had checked on our table.
In terms of the food, I can't say I was impressed. The platters being brought to the other table were quite beautiful, which was encouraging as we tried to wait patiently, but our rolls were underwhelming.
We really wanted to love Ekki Sushi, but after this visit, we will not...
Read moreWHAT AN INCREDIBLE RESTAURANT. Ekki Sushi Tremblant is located within the Bel Air Resort area, near the individual domes and standalone house units and a short walk up the hill from the main Clubhouse (where check-in occurs, and where the Spa and resto Le Bistro are located). It is a popular place with outstanding food & service, so reservations are highly recommended, though some walk-ins are accepted (around opening time at 4 PM, and at closing time around 10 PM).
My wife and I, while staying at Bel Air for a few day over the holiday period, were able to make same-day reservations for seats at the bar, and they turned out to be the best seats in the house! We were able to speak with the chef and some of the staff, and get to know more about the place while watching them work their magic with the incredible dishes coming out of the kitchen and the sushi bar.
Chef Merts is a fabulous sushi chef, who told us that he has 16+ years of experience to hone his expertise. While making perfect, beautifully presented, inventive sushi, he shared that he has previously worked in high quality restaurant kitchens in Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Denmark, Norway, Malta, and Cyprus; and it shows! Mont-Tremblant (and all of us visiting!) are really lucky to have him making delicious dishes here. He also shared that he changes the menu from season to season, so that gives us a great reason to make return visits.
Our server, Julianne, was stellar. She was warm, kind, and very helpful with her knowledge of the dishes. She as well as the entire staff were prompt, professional, and attentive. We also noted that everyone was functioning smoothly even on an extremely busy Saturday night. Massive sushi platters were being prepared and carried to tables very quickly and efficiently, without excessive stress or tension between team members. It was very nice for foodies like us to see this dynamic and we appreciate a place where the staff interacts with each other in a friendly & supportive way.
Our appetisers included a supremely tasty veggie onigiri, simple but excellent yakitori, and a salmon tataki that was superb. Our main meal was several maki rolls that we saw being made, and which were exceptional. And we ended with some sublime mochi and felt extremely satisfied and impressed.
This is one of the best sushi restaurants in all of Québec, and by extension, one of the best in all of Canada. We can’t say enough about it except how delighted we are to have discovered it. We will MOST DEFINITELY be back to enjoy this outstanding cuisine. Thank you again, Chef Merts and team!...
