I am giving 5 stars overall, despite zero stars given for food, five stars for service just because our server Krysten deserves more than five stars and five stars for meal experience.
We recently visited The Shore and was truly impressed by the outstanding service and delightful ambiance. From the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable – truly making us feel valued and well-cared for throughout the evening. Our beautiful server Krysten was a standout, offering excellent recommendations and checking in at just the right times without being intrusive. She let us feel home at The shore.
The restaurant's atmosphere is absolutely charming. It is strategically lucky to be in the waterfront from one side busy highway on the other; location, location and location. The decor is tastefully done, creating a warm, inviting, and sophisticated environment that's perfect for a special occasion or a relaxed dinner. The lighting, music, and overall vibe were perfectly balanced, making for a truly enjoyable setting.
However, the quality of the food was unfortunately a significant letdown. The fish and chips we had was particularly disappointing, failing to meet even basic expectations for taste and execution. It felt like the kitchen was not on the same level as the front-of-house staff or the beautiful surroundings.
We were lured into Fish and Chips with a Google Maps Review photograph, looking crispy and golden on the batter and presumably fish fillet melting in the mouth. We ended up grinding and eating petrified protein slab reinforced by blackish layer of concrete. The fish had been in the deep fryer for at least half an hour with no supervision from a chef, passed through the kitchen expeditor and maître d'hotel just to ruin the entire dining experience.
In summary, if you're looking for a place with fantastic service and a wonderful atmosphere to enjoy drinks or appetizers, The Shores excels. But if delicious, high-quality food is your priority, you might leave feeling underwhelmed. I truly hope they can elevate their culinary offerings to match the otherwise exceptional experience.
Thank you Krysten you still saved...
Read moreThe view is marvellous, but know in advance that is what you are paying for. The food is mediocre at best. The servers were pleasant but new and inexperienced, and service was slow (likely because of the kitchen).
My friend and I shared a $25 charcuterie board which was sparse at best, and several of the meats tasted fishy (storage issue?). Two slices of prosciutto, two slices of salami and two folded slices of hot genoa salami. Two tiny wedges of cheddar (?), two tiny wedges of gruyere (?), and a tablespoon sized pile of blue cheese crumbles. Miniature ramekins of tomato chutney, olives and pickled cauliflower. Garnished by a limp, halved baby carrot. The board was overwhelmed by the amount of crostini - which we didn’t get to eat much of because our server whisked away the butter without asking, and one the small quantity meats etc. were gone there were few charms to eating dry crostini.
The meal was tragic. Steak arrived cold, without any seasoning whatsoever and barely cooked (it actually looked a bit greyish like it had been steamed then thrown on a flattop for a minuscule amount of browning). Chicken was simultaneously dry AND mushy - quite an accomplishment. Watery “pureed” potatoes lacking butter and seasoning, and beans which apparently got ALL the seasoning lacking from the other components on the plate because all I could taste was salt and pepper. Although they were perfectly cooked, the heavy-handed application of salt and pepper rendered them inedible.
Dessert was standard pub-fare, not great, not awful. No offerings appeared to be prepared in-house.
They clearly splashed out on a stylish and sophisticated renovation. The restaurant, patio and washrooms were spotless and being on a single level with the parking lot everything would be easily accessible. Unfortunately, they are being badly let down by their kitchen.
In all, massively overpriced for what we received in quality, quantity and service. The two of us spent close to $200 (no alcohol, just soft drinks) on a meal worth less than 2/3 of that. The entertainer on the patio was a pleasant addition, but we...
Read moreLooking for a restaurant with a scenic view, we were recommended this place by a Google search and it truly delivered. The dining room is huge and the view was nice, although it was raining, the view was still romantic with raindrops on the window.
The service was excellent, and our server Sara was friendly and helpful. We ordered several appetizers and a couple of mains. As we waited for our appetizers, I noticed other tables received dinner rolls, but we didn’t. We didn't bother to ask for it since we had so much food coming.
Now for the food:
Appetizers: Crab Cake: (8/10) This was well made, crispy on the outside, and soft, flaky, and well-seasoned on the inside. The sauces complimented it well and the presentation was well done.
Korean Fried Chicken: (9/10) Well made and bite-sized. The chicken pieces were evenly coated, and the sweet and spicy was perfectly balanced.
Fresh Mussels: (6/10) I would have plated it differently. The cream sauce needed more seasoning and slightly more wine. It was good, but it can be better.
Main Courses: Fish and Chips: (9/10) The fish was perfectly cooked with a golden, crispy coating and soft fish inside. The chips (fries) were okay.
The Shore Burger: (7/10) The brioche bun was soft and the burger was well-seasoned. The burger was good, but as a fan of old-fashioned burger patties, I was okay with it.
Overall, the service was great, and the bathrooms were clean, although they needed stocking up on paper towels. My dining partners and I had a good experience and we would...
