During our recent visit to Jake’s on Main in Unionville, Ontario, we had the pleasure of being served by Nighttime Sarah, who truly made our evening unforgettable. From the moment we sat down, her warm demeanor and infectious energy set the tone for a delightful night. It’s rare to find a server who not only meets expectations but also goes above and beyond to ensure that guests feel valued and entertained.

Sarah’s timely service was impressive, as she expertly balanced the demands of the busy restaurant while still checking in on us regularly. Our drinks were never empty, and she anticipated our needs with a keen eye. Her ability to manage multiple tables without sacrificing the quality of service made our experience seamless, allowing us to focus on enjoying our meal and each other’s company.

One of the highlights of our night was Sarah's enthusiastic recommendation of the “Sarah Style” buffalo chicken wrap. Intrigued by her description, we decided to give it a try. This twist on their classic buffalo chicken wrap was exceptional, featuring a perfect blend of spicy and savory flavors. The added crunch and unique ingredients made it stand out, and it was clear that this was a dish she truly loved serving. We couldn’t have asked for a better recommendation.

Alongside the wrap, Sarah suggested her specialty styled poutine, which was the perfect accompaniment. The poutine was rich and indulgent, with perfectly crispy fries, flavorful gravy, and gooey cheese. It was the ideal comfort food pairing with the buffalo chicken wrap and added a delicious twist to our meal. The thoughtful combination of these dishes showcased Sarah’s passion for the menu and her commitment to providing a memorable dining experience.

As the evening progressed, Sarah’s humor and engaging personality made our dining experience even more enjoyable. She effortlessly shared anecdotes and jokes that kept us laughing, creating an inviting and relaxed atmosphere. By the end of the night, we left not only satisfied with our meal but also with a memorable experience thanks to Sarah’s exceptional service. We highly recommend visiting Jake’s on Main and asking for Sarah—she truly knows how to make a...

My family and I have been to Jake's on Main a few times after discovering it during the pandemic. Food is good and vibes on a summer night (minus the wasps) is great. HOWEVER service is sub-par. When we arrived tonight, the restaurant was not too busy and tables were not full. We were seated right away but it took over 10 minutes before our waitress showed up to our table to greet us and take our food/drink order. Our food came out relatively quickly once we ordered and quality was good. It was time to pay the bill, and we paid with debit. After paying, my husband noticed we were charged for a fountain drink. Our daughter's meal comes with a fountain drink but she doesnt drink pop so we told the waitress my husband will just take it. Our waitress misunderstood and charged us for an adult fountain drink and we didn't even recieve a separate drink for our daughter. We brought it to her attention, and cleared the situation. She apologized for the mistake and said she would talk to the manager. The manager on shift told us she couldn't issue a refund for debit because she didnt know how. She asked to take our number and if we could come back tmrw. I asked her if she could just call a manager that knows how to do it and she said they would just say the same thing. We live over 30 minutes away so driving back isn't convenient. My husband just asked to have a diet coke to go since we technically paid over $4.00 for it. While walking around unionville and sipping on his coke - he noticed the taste was off and it was because the canned drink expired DECEMBER 2022. Today's date is August 16, 2023.

$4.00 plus tax is not alot however the fact the restaurant couldn't properly issue a refund is concerning and the fact they gave us an expired can is also disturbing. While food and vibes are good, they need to work on proper customer service and ensuring their manager on duty is able to adress bill issues in the event it does come up. The manager on duty didnt seem like she cared enough to help resolve the situation by at least making a phone call or even just apologize for her lack...

Racism & bad service in Jake’s On Main

Earlier today, me and my dad decided have lunch at Jake’s On Main’s patio. As mentioned by one of the waitresses, there’s a policy where dogs are only allowed to tie outside the fence ( which means they have to be facing the road)

As part of the Asian community + living in Markham for a year, it’s the first ever time I experienced racism in a restaurant.

Taking the responsibility of bringing a 12 weeks old Bichon Frise small puppy to Unionville Mainstreet, of course we wouldn’t tie her on the fence because she’ll get scared and overwhelmed by the crowds.

They offered a table near the fence, but considering with all the circumstances, we disagreed and left.

well you might wonder, how is this connecting to racism?

  1. if there’s a dog policy where dogs are supposed to tie outside the fence, all dogs should be tied when owners are eating inside the patio. however, we witnessed 2 groups of White and Brown Canadians, eating inside the patio with one of the dogs underneath the chair, also a dog was carried by the owner. We asked whether it’s possible to do the same, they just IGNORED My question TWICE.
  2. Making excuses. They explained the reason why dogs should be tied outside the face by making excuses like “people can get allergy” Yes, it makes sense, I do understand that. But if it’s the case, the TWO dogs that I saw, should be tied outside.
  3. bad attitude towards the Asians such as making faces and ignoring questions.

If you are bringing your dog, not only do you have to consider whether it’s a suitable restaurant/ patio for you, but also your race ;)

Last but not least, I’m not here to only blacklist this restaurant, but also to spread awareness about racism towards Asian communities. It’s the 21st century, and racism should never exist in the first place. Please treat others the way you wanted to be...

Came here today for a patio experience on a sunny but windy day. Ordered the lobster & crab Mac n cheese, and I found a hair in it. Waitress apologized and asked what else I wanted, so I ordered the lobster & crab fettuccine. While waiting, I asked the 2 hostesses if we could move to the one sunny table that was about to grab the bill since it was very chilly (this patio is mostly shaded in the afternoon with lots of umbrellas), they said yes. When the sunny table opened up, they gave the table to someone else who just walked in. I asked one of the hostesses and she said oh sorry, do you want this other table instead? (Pointing to a non-sunny table next to the one I was currently sitting at). I said never mind as that was no better. We then asked for a the bill. It took at least 20minutes to come, after waiting 15minutes for the waitress to come back to the patio. Waitress arrived with the machine and said “sorry I had to talk to the manager….” (I’m thinking this might be related to the hair in my food). She tells me that my fettuccine was the same price as my Mac n cheese (that had the hair in it) so they just kept the same $20 charge on my bill. Asks me “is this ok?” I would’ve at least expected a small courtesy discount or waive the cost of my dish due to the hair, but Instead it was like it never happened. We tipped a low 10% since it was what I would call a not-so-pleasant experience, but I don’t think we should have tipped at all. Never returning to this restaurant. (Evidence of the non-discounted hair-in-food bill attached.)

So I’ve been here before and the experience was absolutely great on every angle I can think of and they offer great quality to portion to price value. So on the way to Toronto this week I decided to call before arriving to confirm that they sell French onion soup as I had an “ten” for it. To the owner/manager Ron, said of course and it’s home made delicious and cheesy too. So off the highway I went thanks to GPS and was greeted like a welcome relative visiting the family. And within 7 minutes the bowl of piping hot French onion soup was on the table and off I went. I had just had this at the Keg the other day and it was delicious and I can’t believe it, but Jake’s is light years better. The cheese they use, the amazing caramelized onions, the broth - the whole thing is awesome. And it’s not $12 to $15 like in most restaurants. All I can say is this, the deal of the year is to stop off and take a little “me time” and sit by the fireplace and warm yourself up with a nice home made cheesy delicious onion soup and you you thank yourself for doing so. Thanks to the team at Jake’s for treating me so well as a second time patron and a lifelong customer from Thai point onwards I’m always stopping by for a bit or just that amazing soup.

This was the first time I visited Jake's & the first time in Unionville. I went for happy hour with my coworkers but was bummed that they didn't have a happy hour. Due to rain, we sat inside. It had a pub feel in a quaint town. I ordered the fish tacos with fries & a shirley temple. They skimped on sauce & fillings in the tacos, so they were a bit dry & lacklustre however, the shirley temple was bang on! The portions were large & justified the high prices. Service was on point. Good spot if one works or lives in the area. My coworker mentioned that they have music & bands on certain evenings. There is a patio with very warm heat lamps. I don't believe I will return as it didn't wow me unless they implemented a happy hour menu. I am from the US & happy hour is the norm on the homeland. Canada still seems to be lacking in this department. Not sure why especially when it's common sense that you'll bring in more customers.
