For $35/person on a weekday, I definitely ate my money’s worth. The food came out fast after each order and we were told we had 1.5 hours until last call (2 hours sitting time for a table of 4). Food quality: I came here few years ago and the quality and portions definitely went downhill today. My family ordered salmon sashimi and some of the portions was a very light orange colour. It looked so gross that none of us wanted to eat it because it did not look fresh at all. Other cooked items like beef tongue and shrimp skewers were a hit, very well-cooked and flavourful. Matcha crème brûlée was also the best dessert there. Customer service: the absolute worst. Wait staff gave zero eye contact and did not bother talking to us. They actually did that with every table and didn’t even make an effort in interacting with customers. When we paid for the bill, the waitress asked if we needed change and we said no and she just walked away, didn’t say thank you or have a good night, she just didn’t care. Pretty obvious the staff here hates their job. We ordered lamb skewers TWICE and it never came. When the table next to us left, one of the waitresses was cleaning the table and used a disinfectant to spray, she sprayed it over to our table and we weren’t even finished eating. The smell of the spray was also super pungent , it was extremely rude of her to not pay attention to her surroundings and started spraying chemicals around us. Big con: debit or cash only. Unlike many Asian places who’ve changed for the better in terms of payment methods, this restaurant still wants your cash or bank card. Very outdated with how they handle things.

This is an all you can eat sushi restaurant, with no option to choose a la carte menu. This is right in the Markham Place and one of the most busiest parking in the area. I do not necessarily choose a restaurant because of parking, but because of food quality and reputation. I will only complain about parking when I am dissatisfied with the food or the service. Or both. You get a tablet to choose from a variety of sushi, appetizer and desert items. It seems that the selection has shrunk from what I would normally have expected. I think that the fish and sushi items on the menu are well within acceptable minimum, but there seem to be a limited selection for beef. This does not really bother me today as I was just craving for Sushi. Tomorrow might be a different story. I am more than happy with the quality and freshness. By freshness, I mean the degree of excellence in terms of appearance, texture, odour and flavour. Totally acceptable. The orders seems to flow well, and not everything dumped on your table all at once. It looks like all items we ordered were fulfilled at the work order line item, leaving nothing on back order. Desserts came exceptionally fast. Atmosphere was casual, just a tad loud. I normally drive around with a driving licence, a credit card and my phone. Fortunately, today I had my debit card, as they only accept cash or debits. Otherwise, I might have ended in the kitchen washing dishes to pay back. Will come back again.

I came on a Monday late afternoon, early evening, ~5-6pm with a friend. There was no one inside when we came in. A few tables started to fill over the course of dinner, but never got more than half full. I can't do AYCE sushi like I used to, but this one was good because: 1. At most places, when you order, you never get the full amount: they always "forget" to serve it to you. It took quite a bit of time for them to serve everything but they definitely served everything. When we realized we probably ordered too much, we were kind of eyeing the servers praying it wasn't for our table. 2. Quality of fish: I feel like a great indicator is when you order squid nigiri. Many places, it tastes really fishy or when they blanch it, they overcook it so it ends up as a rubbery texture. The one here was easy to chew and swallow, no ocean flavours. 3. Small pieces: for AYCE, I actually prefer smaller pieces, because they're easier to go through. Serving in large portions, especially with a bad rice:fish ratio just means I order less. My favourite orders of the evening were the baked mussels (it had a clam chowder cream to it), the squid (Ika) + butterfish + torched beef + salmon nigiri, the beef wrapped vegetables. Service was direct, to-the-point. Nothing outstanding or over the top. Music selection was so good. I always really love when restaurants play music I like. Overall, I recommend this place as a solid option for reliable AYCE sushi.

CRITICAL REVIEW**

Biggest mistake trying out this AYCE sushi for the first time. Read a lot of reviews before going and a lot of people seem to have mentioned getting food poisoning or having diarrhea. Despite the reviews decided to give them a try (maybe reviews could be fake) and it was a disaster. Not only did I get explosive diarrhea I also got food poisoning leaving me bed sick for few days resulting in a late review. Upon ordering, only the kitchen food like deep fried items kept coming out, sushi/sashimi nowhere in sight. After waiting 30 minutes tried ordering a second time the exact same order and once again only the kitchen food came no sushi/sashimi arrived on our table. Funny thing is even the deep fried items/soup were cold and black as if they were just already sitting there. Patience has its limits and I decided to respectively ask the short haired lady which seemed to be the hostess what happened to our sushi/sashimi. Instead of actually looking into our concern she just brushed it off by saying “it’s coming” and walked away. At this point I already have lost my appetite and stopped eating whatever we had on the table and waited again. It’s been 40 minutes now and even after asking different servers about the status on our order they told us that the chef was working on our order right way. Another 5 minutes went by and at this point I requested a manager. She came and looked at the tablet and saw the time stamp of the order placed and acknowledged that 40 minutes was too long of a wait but that’s what we are suppose to expect at AYCE sushi places. LIKE SERIOUSLY? At this point I felt super disrespected/embarrassed and asked for the bill which the manager insisted that the sashimi/sushi will be free? I declined and said I totally lost my appetite and I am not there for “free food”. Even the table next to us spoke out having the same issues so we were not the only one. Ending up paying half of the discounted bill which was $50 for two of us which the manager was laughing is if it was a joke for some cold black deep fried items and a bowl of miso soup and you got it….. diarrhea plus food poisoning. IF YOU ARE THE OWNER READING THIS SHAME ON YOU AND YOUR ESTABLISHMENT. HEALTH CANADA NEEDS TO PAY A VISIT TO...

This was recommended to me by a co-worker as she highly praised the torches sushi.

My initial reaction was “racism.” The lady in the front didn’t check the QR code of the asian people in front of us but did check our QR code. So I was off put by that. The waiter didn’t introduce him or her self. So far the restaurant is looking bad.

Next was the water. You are provided a pitcher of water which tasted more acidic. Disgusting after taste.

One of the cups provided to us had a hole in it. Literally water was pouring out the bottom.

K wanted to walk out so bad but I also was hungry and had to eat the food to get a sense if this place is truly worth it for the price they charge.

The upside did trickle through when the food came out. The miso soup and corn soup was bleh. The sushi rolls were alright, more in the dry side. If the sushi rolls had sauce, it was more in the watery base. The sashimi wasn’t good quality, cold cut. The Korean fried rice was okay as it hinted sweetness to its flavour palette. The chicken skewer was good. The shrimp skewer was okay. The lamb skewer was good! The seasoning is exactly the same seasoning used in “Chat Bar.” The the garlic beef was good, to me it was essentially minced garlic and soy sauce and other sauces. The cold tofu was okay. The special rolls weren’t special at all, meh. The highlight torched sushi… was meh. I like the butterfish torched the most. But the rest was meh. The beef wrap enoki mushrooms were good.

The highlight was probably dessert. I don’t see passion fruit yogurt in other places so that was neat.

I hope the restaurant see this to improve their service and quality of food served from the high price they charge.

Would I come again? Maybe. If I see them not check other peoples QR code and check ours. I’d def walk away and officially call the...

I don't know if the restaurant has changed owners and/or management but we didn't have a good experience at Kaka Sushi.

We had an early dinner reservation. When we showed up we were told they were running late and couldn't seat us right away but that we needed to be finished by 6pm as they had another group after us. This was the first time it was mentioned to us that we needed to be done in such short time. We had less than 1.5 hours to order and complete our meal. It was a surprise as we never were told before of any time limit, though we always assumed like most AYCE sushi places it was 2 hours. Nonetheless, we accepted this and proceeded to sit at our table.

What really bothered us was constant and incessant reminder during our meal by more than one server. In fact we had three different servers remind us within a span of five minutes. In fact they even advised us of last call being 5:30, not for main dishes but dessert as well. Which meant ice cream would be sitting there for a while melting. It's one thing for servers to be a bit pushy it's an entirely different level when the manager is the one pushing them and in turn rushing us to be done.

What we don't understand is why they seated us in a section that had a reservation pushed against our time slot when an entire section beside us was empty save for one table for the entire time we were there. This is bad management of seating by attempting to maximize profits, making us feel like cattle being herded around.

Finally to top it off, we felt the quality of the food has gone down. There also seems to be less selection and level of freshness and taste isn't the same as before. We enjoyed going to this restaurant in the past but unfortunately after this last experience we won't be...
