This restaurant is confidently located next to the Super 8 motel and right off the main highway entering and leaving the town. Chosen for its proximity during an overnight stay I didn't have elevated expectations.
I ordered dry ribs to start and a Buffalo wrap with fries and gravy. The ribs were breaded and boneless and more in the shape of a cube. They were decent though typical of a pub style food, were over seasoned and double fried, likely due to being frozen and store bought. The Buffalo wrap was also serviceable but not especially standout. The sauce was pedestrian and was probably just Frank's Red Hot. Not a poor taste but not wow either. The gravy left the same taste and the fries were reminiscent of krinkle superfries with townhouse gravy.
The meal itself was as expected though. This was average pub food and it delivered on expectation. The food was 3 stars.
The service, however, was disappointing. There were only 2 groups in the bar (restaurant part closed due to covid) and the server was polite enough but seemed disinterested in providing service. The ribs arrived first, then the meal while I was barely a 3rd through the appetizer. I was asked if I needed anything at that time, I said I was OK for now. I was never spoken to again. I finished my drink and was never checked in on for a refill. I finished the ribs and was not asked how they were or had the basket removed. I finished my meal and still not a thing. In fact no cues to check in on me at all. Dessert? Coffee? Cheque? Nothing. Finally aftern10 minutes to see if anything would happen out of curiosity, I finally went up and paid at the bar.
To be clear, nothing rude or unseemly, but absolute bare minimum effort. Service standard of fast food. Pleasant single interaction then forgotten. I actually wanted a coffee but if they couldn't be bothered neither could I.
Overall the food was fine, don't expect anything special but be assured it will be good. The service though I hope for their sake was a one off as it did not convince me to return. I can get this food anywhere so why...
Read more3 of us went here for supper at 6pm. Seated promptly. Order was taken after about 10 minutes even though the place was almost empty. 1 order of cutlets. 1 order of beef dip. 1 order of Salisbury steak. We waited 35 minutes for our orders to arrive! Unacceptable as like I said the place was almost empty. The cutlets were ok but the baked potato was like a rock. The beef dip was bare naked and didn't come with fries as was listed on the menu. The Salisbury steak burger needed a steak knife to cut through and was basically tasteless. When the young waitress asked how everything was it was mentioned about the rock hard potato. She said yeah the people at another table mentioned the same thing. She just walked away without even trying to offer a soft baked potato or even a side of fries. We then waited and waited for the bill. As it turned out another staff member told us we paid at the counter. First time last time. KFC would've been a better choice. Small town folks I guess put up with this type of poor...
Read more0 stars. They closed the doors right after we came in even though their sign said they were open for another hour. The mushroom soup tasted like old socks. Service was abrupt to put it nicely. Buddy had a cordon bleu burger with no sauce or cheese. And our bill was almost $50 with 2 beers. Best part was watching the head cook go to the ice cream shack (that was closed as well) open it up to grab 4 big bowls of ice cream and then relock it and leave. I would not recommend this place to my...
