I visited this place not to purchase a doughnut but to get quick help for a medical emergency. I am diabetic and I was near this shop when my blood sugar started dropping severely, I had something sweet with me however unfortunately it wasn’t enough. I stopped by this shop at 7:30 AM, they were not open but they opened the door to allow a staff in, so I ran their way and asked the person to provide me with anything sweet and I explained my case. He proceeded to tell me that they are not opened yet and they do not have anything ready, I told him that I want a juice and of course I will pay for it, I can see from outside that they carry it, he refused to give me anything and I couldn’t waste more time begging him, I had to go find some place else that would help me (I had to drive to find somewhere else because all the shops in this building were closed). I managed to buy something sweet that raised by blood sugar and luckily I arrived to work safely. I decided to go back to this place after work to speak to the owner, luckily nothing happened to me but I didn’t want something similar to happen to someone else who might not be able to reach somewhere else and ask for help. The owner or manager came out ready for a fight when he knew that the lady from this morning is outside, mind you I wasn’t there to pick any fight I just wanted to ask him to teach his staff that there is some humane situations worth breaking the rules for, even if you are still closed. He told me that the guy I dealt with in the morning is his son and he is aware of the situation, he said that they were closed and they are in a sketchy area they cannot allow anyone knocking on their door in. He proceeded to tell me that if I have diabetes I should keep something sweet with me and that I was able to drive therefore I wasn’t in medical distress, and that his business is not a hospitality business and cannot allow anyone in. When I told him that the first thing I thought of is to write a review but then I thought I didn’t want to harm a small business or the staff (especially that the staff looked young and inexperienced) so I decided to come to speak to the owner instead, he answered that I can put a review he will reply to the review the same way he replied to me in person, so basically he doesn’t care. I would advise anyone who cares for anyone with a medical situation to boycott this place, no matter how good their doughnuts are, the owner is an insensitive and inhumane human being, who thinks he can give medical advise when people need his...
Read moreHave been a customer here for a few years now and have referred many others to them over this time as well. Up until today have had no issues and to be honest donuts are still great, however not good enough for me to come back over a silly “new policy”.
So, swung by today and picked up 6 Plain Janes. They boxed them up and then I said I wanted a smaller box as I wanted to buy some additional donuts as a gift (new neighbours, from TO, wanted to tell them about the place and welcome them to the neighbourhood with some donuts). Well, want I informed that I would need to pay for the second box as there was a new store policy that second boxes had to be paid for. I again mentioned that it was a gift so I needed a box. They said it didn’t matter that that was the policy. They then meant that they could fit up to 12 donuts in the box I already had (not so without squishing my donuts or placing them one on top of the as my 6 were large - maybe another 2 could have fit). I basked, what am I supposed to do - cut my box in half and give a gift with a partial box? Anyhow, just took my 6 donuts and didn’t buy the additional gift donuts (actually needed a third box of donuts as well for my brother as well but didn’t even go there at this point.) So the cost of a box vs another $24 worth of donuts sold. I would totally understand if I was looking for small amounts in each box but not so.
So, last time purchase today - not over a bad product but a lack of common sense or knowledge around customer service really. Sadly though I truly don’t think they will care as they still sell out of donuts often. As I said, product great, but with silly “store policies” like this I would say avoid them like the plague and go elsewhere. Luckily I am on the west side of Mississauga and there are two excellent bakeries close by whose donuts I can purchase without additional box fees and will recommend them to my new...
Read moreOk. Daddy O’s Doughnuts are good. Definitely get top rating for letting their yeasty, raised doughnuts rise a lot before frying. The oil temp must have been perfect because they did not feel greasy at all, nor does it taste like reused frying oil. Their fritter is fantastically fluffy with a delicate crunch at the edges and huge chunks of recently in-the-fruit apples. The carrot cake doughnut (not shown because it was so good that it was gone before a photo could be taken) was moist and flavorful, minus about half the amount of the piped on cream cheese frosting. The raised vegan doughnut was fluffy enough that I suspect all the raised doughnut bases are vegan, which detracts not at all from the doughnut experience. IMO, the vegan chocolate frosting tasted much better with coconut oil than the butter based frosting, even with the annoying crunchy candy sprinkles on it. They need fewer fancy toppings and more plain doughnuts that don’t mask or add to the texture. The maple frosting was buttery and mapley with thick-cut bacon pieces. The lemon Bob Marleys, filled generously with English lemon curd was, however, the best with its soft fluffy, chewy raised outside, erupting with the curd from the inside. Did not get any more (yet) because even my husband could not eat more than 2 in a single sitting. Will see how well these sit out, cut open, if they last that long.
I suspect that the typical consumers probably won’t pay the $4-$5 price tags of most the plainer donuts left at 11:30 AM—except for diehard doughnuts aficionados. But honestly, I can put up with a bit of scraping to enjoy the fluffiness of perfectly fried doughnuts that are not gooey from being undercooked or dry from being overly done. This is definitely a dozen I would feel no qualms taking into a room full of foodies, chefs and master bakers. In fact, I...
