Prior to the pandemic, this had been my go-to fish and chips place for 10 years. I recently went back to Homestyle and have had fish and chips from there 3 times over the past couple of months and have found that things have changed. The prices have increased which is understandable considering higher costs of ingredients, etc. but the service is definitely not as friendly as it used to be and the fish portions are noticeably smaller. If you order the haddock and fries, instead of getting a short, plump piece of fish like in the past, you now get a long, very thin strip of fish which feels like more batter than fish which was not the case in the past. On one occasion, I went in and placed a walk-in order and came back to pick up my order only to see people who had come in and ordered after me having their order prepared and served first. As a result, I have recently started ordering from a different fish and chips place that I think will become my new go-to...

The restaurant gets 1 star because while the fish and chips are really good, the cheap, chilled and overly sweet red wine delivered in frosted - and as it turns out dirty - wine glasses and decanter, and the dirty vinegar containers and the numerous fruit flies (we were there December 1!), prevents me from giving even 2 stars. At first, when we got the wine we asked about the glasses, they looked dirty, the server said they’re just frosted. Well, by the time they warmed up, they were looking dirty. My husband brought one in to the washroom and cleaned it himself. The glasses were definitely dirty. So, while the prices were good, and the fish and chips were also good, overall it wasn’t a positive experience. I would have liked coleslaw included but it was a...

It's not bad.

This spot actually used to be my favorite spot for fish and chips in Mississauga because the deals were so unbelievably priced and the fries were addictive. I think the fact that the store owners know the regulars by name attests to the longstanding reputation of quality.

Even after ownership changed it was still pretty good, but lately it feels like there are some problems with consistency. On my last visit the fries were undercooked and a little anemic and the fish portions definitely feel like they shrunk, which then of course leads to the fish tasting overcooked and feeling over-battered.

All said and done, the value from the lunch deals are still pretty great and this is gonna continue to be my fish and chips spot until something...

I've been coming to Homestyle Fish and Chips for 26 years. The shop has changed hands about 3 times but the quality of food is still consistently good. Not greasy at all. Freshly store cut potatoes for their fries. Usually not too busy, but definitely lunch time has a fair amount of customers. I order the “Two and a few” halibut which is a smaller version with less fries and is still a fairly generous portion. The only thing I miss is a fresh wedge of lemon. I would give it 5 stars if they had that. The coleslaw is more mayonnaise based, so don't ever order it as I prefer a more vinegar based coleslaw. Will come here again whenever I'm in the neighbourhood. If you found this review helpful, please click the like button.

I’ve been coming to this location for approximately 15 years. A new owner has recently taken over in the last four years. I have noticed that the potatoes have changed and the quality of fish has changed. It seems they are using a different potato and fish now. The taste has changed. In addition, now they serve paper plates. There is no longer the white ceramic plate. I noticed this happened when Covid hit ;however, it seems to still keeping the paper plates that are disposable. In terms of the pricing, it is still within reason for the lunch special only the moment lunch is over. The price goes up. I believe 2:00 PM is the cut off time I’m not sure since there’s no sign that states it.
