I recently had the misfortune of visiting Tandoori House Grill and Bar, and I must say it was a truly dreadful experience. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that customer service was not a priority for this establishment.
First and foremost, the hygiene standards at Tandoori House were appallingly low. The moment I stepped into the restaurant, a foul smell hit my nostrils, indicating a lack of proper cleaning and maintenance. The tables were sticky and covered in crumbs, and the floors looked like they hadn't been swept in ages. It was an instant turn-off and made me question the cleanliness of their kitchen.
Speaking of the kitchen, the food quality at Tandoori House was nothing short of horrendous. I ordered their supposedly famous butter chicken, but what arrived at my table was a greasy, tasteless mess. The chicken pieces were overcooked and chewy, drowning in a pool of oily sauce that lacked any depth of flavor. The naan bread accompanying it was stale and had clearly been reheated multiple times. It was an insult to Indian cuisine.
As if the poor food and hygiene weren't enough, the customer service was equally abysmal. The staff members seemed disinterested and were inattentive to the needs of the customers. They took forever to bring menus, forgot our drink orders, and seemed bothered when we asked for recommendations. Their rude demeanor made us feel unwelcome and unimportant.
To add insult to injury, the excessive wait times at Tandoor House were beyond comprehension. We had made a reservation, yet we still had to wait for over an hour to be seated. The restaurant was clearly understaffed, with long lines of frustrated customers forming at the entrance. It was a chaotic and disorganized mess, leaving a sour taste in my mouth before I even got a chance to taste their subpar food.
Lastly, I must mention the state of the washrooms. Filthy would be an understatement. The restroom was a breeding ground for bacteria, with unflushed toilets, wet floors, and a complete absence of soap or paper towels. It was clear that basic sanitation was not a priority for the management, which is simply unacceptable in any establishment.
All in all, my experience at Tandoori House Grill and Bar was a nightmare. Poor customer service, abysmal hygiene, horrible food quality, rude staff, and excessive wait times made it one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I strongly advise anyone considering visiting this restaurant to steer clear and find a more reputable establishment where your money and time will be...
Read moreAn unassuming hidden gem, serving the best Punjabi food in and around Toronto. If any of you living downtown are reading this, I IMPLORE you to get yourself into a car, make the drive out to Mississauga and taste the amazing food at Tandoori House Grill and Bar.
Is the place vibin' to the max? No, and that's clearly not their intention. This is a simple, no-frills mom and pop restaurant that concentrates all their efforts into one, simple and meaningful thing: the creation of amazing food, backed by love.
I've known the owners for the past 15 years when my wife told me about this Indian restaurant she and all her Brampton/Mississauga colleagues would go to daily for lunch. A different establishment at the time, my wife was there on the regular - I would join her when I could.
I'm so happy to see them having resurfaced, running Tandoori House G&B. The evolution of their food has matured in those 15 years I've known them, while holding still some key fundamental values: Delicious. Healthy. Affordable.
I will admit that after all these years, I likely have elements of their non-veg Thali sequenced into my DNA. As I type this, I've just devoured an Aloo Paratha - so delicate and fluffy, even after a 20 minute drive home after picking up as take-away! - and a chicken korma. I haven't ordered a korma in years as it's not my usual go-to, but I felt like it tonight - rich, yet velvety smooth, LIGHT with chicken perfectly moist (their chicken, always white meat, found in any of their chicken curries is always consistent). The perfect balance and order between cashews, tomatoes, onions, and everything in between. Ordered myself a large, ate half of it, and while I certainly don't feel hungry, I do not feel anywhere close to disaster-mode-territory that I normally feel at every other Punjabi resto. I have never seen the oil slick one is accustomed to seeing coming out of other kitchens.
And hey, if those places want to weigh you down with grease, go on ahead. These guys will not.
Couldn't recommend...
Read moreIf you're looking for a trendy place with average food but great vibes, music and a bustling atmosphere - avoid coming here at all costs.
If however, you are looking for a quiet place with character and some amazing dishes which come very very close to home cooked Indian food, this is where you want to be.
This is what I call a hidden gem. Unassuming, nondescript and not in need of validation. The food speaks for itself. It's freshly made from scratch - which is a big plus for Indian food in Canada, since most places just heat up your gravies and other preparations before serving. These guys here take the time and make you wait for your food, just like you would at home. By the same token, you know what's coming out of the kitchen, is freshly and consciously made based on your preferences.
No extra oil and grease floating in the curries, no unnecessary spices to enhance flavors or preserve the food for longer, just pure simplicity and magic. We ordered saag, rajma, bhindi, a couple of chicken dishes and makke ki roti, some chhole kulche and garlic Naan. Not one thing to complain about the whole spread. It was perfection.
If there is one thing I would want to critique, it would be the quantity. Or perhaps it's just coz the food is so good, I would want the serving to be a bit bigger.
We visited last Sunday and I forgot to write this review. I just remembered because we are planning to visit this evening once again. And this will be our weekend ritual for as long as we are in the GTA. Thank you guys for the quality food. You're rare and please...
