Dixie Lee has been a beloved home staple for over 50 years, and their motto, “If you like chicken, you’ll love Dixie Lee,” couldn’t be more accurate. I bet every family gathering or casual night in is made special with their perfectly fried chicken. There’s something about the crackle of that crispy, golden skin that hits just right, and the way the meat stays tender and juicy beneath it is a testament to their time-honored recipe.
Their meals are as generous as they are delicious, with huge portions of fries, a side of creamy coleslaw, and their signature gravy. The chicken itself is so flavorful, it’s best enjoyed with a warm roll, but I tried it once with steamed rice and found they complemented each other perfectly, especially when drizzled with that savory gravy.
Dixie Lee’s Friday Special, which includes their two shrimp snack, is perfect for those nights when you’re craving a lighter meal. It’s just right for two dinners, especially if you have an appetite for breaded shrimp and crispy fries. The combination of their golden shrimp and perfectly seasoned fries makes for a satisfying meal that’s simple yet delicious.
For anyone who loves Dixie Lee or is discovering it for the first time, it’s more than just fried chicken—it’s a nostalgic taste of home, one that has brought families together...
Read moreFood = Decent. Fish was overcooked a bit, but it was still okay. Fries were great.
Service = Terrible. Zero greeting, and in fact the first thing the lady said to me was quite rude, even after I greeted her with a smile and a hello. Zero customer service and social ability from the lady that took our order. It was very clear she absolutely hates her job and takes it out on customers. This is completely unacceptable.
Service time = Reasonable. We waited roughly 8-10 minutes for 2 meals.
It would be far from my first option, but I would likely return. However, if I walked in and saw the same lady working the cash I'd simply turn around and take my business elsewhere just based on principle alone, and likely never return again after that.
I see other reviews of people complaining about rude employees as well. I think management would be wise to take these complaints seriously and do more staff training, or have better...
Read moreThe style of fried chicken is more like braised then fried and not breaded fried like southern style fried chicken places. It is probably slightly healthier than your average KFC or Popeyes. Where Dixie Lee really shines is their sides. The macaroni and coleslaw tastes homemade and fresh. Both the macaroni salad and coleslaw are not runny or overly creamy. Good texture and crunch in the coleslaw and the taste is much better than any of the other chicken franchises. The fries are better than average thick crinkle cut.
My only issue is with the dinner rolls. If Dixie Lee would come up with some kind of southern style biscuit instead of these Styrofoam-like, paper mâche textured "bread" rolls that could double as packing material for Amazon orders, I would give 5 stars. Dixie Lee could compete with the big fried chicken franchises if they would just do something about the recycling material they try to pass off as...
