Part 3 (Jun 27 2025) Been a bit since revisiting. I ordered the roastbeef special. Asked for the homefries when asked my potato selection. Far too many potatoes for one person, big or small. Roastbeef sandwich was drowned in gravy. Couldn't see the fat and I did get a mouthful. After discreetly spitting it into my napkin, from then on I carefully tried to watch out for the fat/gristle. Too few pees relative to potatoes and gravy. Pat ordered the liver. Far overcooked. Came with a mystery veggie that was a mushy white mess. She couldn't figure it out. I tried and guessed some type of mushy cabbage. Asked waitress and she let us know it was turnip. Even she agreed it is nasty. Overall cost of our meal was over 40 dollars including tax and coffee each. We will not be returning anytime soon. Waitress was a treasure and we hope she endures, for their sake.
Part 2 (new owners in 2024): Still enjoy eating at this family restaurant with my lovely wife Pat. No longer under the COVID pandemic guidelines. Treated as a cold or flu nowadays. Staff are very knowledgeable about their food options. Always upbeat and down to earth. I highly encourage this as a great family restaurant for eating out at reasonable pricing. I personally love their menu choices.
Part 1 (original owners): Always a great meal here. Both my wife and I enjoy the atmosphere in this fine restaurant. Reminds us of one of our favourite family restaurants back in Ontario where we'd lived most our lives. Refreshing to eat in an actual family restaurant where they care for their clientele. All the best this new year 2022. Looking forward to the end of COVID and the need to wear mask 24/7 whenever out in public. slight side benefit is the much lower incidents of flues and colds. Something to think about...
Read moreFor a long time I didn't go to Hynes. I swore the last time would be the last time due to the food quality. Overcooked and cold by the time it got to me. Under the new ownership I have so far been there 4 times. I would like to take a moment to first off give a little kudos as it has improved. However I did note the following on my return trips.
The works on a burger should include lettuce tomato and onion. It adds that fresh zing. A bigger bun would also help with the meat to bread ratio. Burger wasn't overcooked so kudos there.
Also the fried shrimp and scallops are divine. Not overly breaded, not greasy and perfectly cooked. Side note, get rid of that wretched pre packaged tartar sauce. A homemade one would be incredible. This was inedible. Fries were perfectly cooked as was the fish. Huge portions of golden deliciousness 😋
When I ordered the liver and onions on a subsequent visit I was pleased with the mashed potatoes and gravy but the vegetables I swear must have been sitting in a warning table for at least an hour. Very soggy no texture no flavor. It would take only an extra minute to microwave or saute to order. The liver was so overcooked it was a shingle. I understand by health regulations it can't be pink, but this was like the grill guy forgot it was there and then rather than throw it away and start fresh served it. If liver is served that way as a norm, please stop cooking it to death.
Service has remained consistently good with the wait staff, but for the love of God don't let your kitchen slack off and rest on the laurels of the name...
Read more(forgive me for the steak being eaten a bit in the photo i was hungry) i like this place! every now and then i come here to get one of their to-go meals, they are both affordable and delicious. this time i got to come here to dine in for breakfast. the waitress that greeted me and my ma was nice, seemed to be in a bit of a hurry but i don't blame her. food service is a tough job. she was as welcoming and cheerful she could be, though! i was also NOT expecting that i'd get an entire (small) teapot for breakfast, but it warmed me up well. i'll be honest that i was hesitant to come have breakfast here since the prices for it are a bit high. i usually can't afford stuff like this but i did come anyway and boy they did not disappoint at the size of the dish i've been eyeing on. it's quite hefty, and it comes with two slices of toast! the steak and eggs were cooked to my request, medium-rare and scrambled. it is nothing fancy and i appreciate that, it's nice to enjoy simplicity every once in a while. the food is plain but hey, you get to season it with as much salt and pepper you need. the potatoes (and extra onions) were delicious. surprisingly, the steak goes super well with some cranberry sauce and ketchup (that didn't come with the dish, it's there because i was curious if it worked together). the atmosphere in the restaurant is quite homely and warm, old-fashioned but honestly i like old-fashioned lmao. reminds me of what i grew up with. really want to come again during dinnertime some day, the options were more plentiful...
