. So first off I'll start by saying the overall ambiance of Strom mont saint hilaire is amazing. As soon as you enter the parking lot and see the building you feel calm. It's beautiful and soothing, and as you enter the building you immediately smell soothing essential oils and see a beautiful indoor fireplace. The thermal experience is truly one of a kind and is the real reason to visit. There are so many different types of ice baths and saunas, and they are constantly walking around taking samples of the water and keeping everything perfectly clean. There is a skin exfoliation station outside of one of the sauna sections where you can scrub your body and rinse in their shower next to the sauna. Their wet sauna smells of eucalyptus and lemon and there is a shower right inside the wet sauna so you can get nice and cold and then stay in the sauna. Their ice baths have different temperatures and you can walk around outside to each saunas and pool enjoying the scenery and find the perfect spot to sit outdoors if wanted. They have a yurt with chairs and an indoor fire pit where you can unwind and read a book or just relax and there is a big beautiful fire pit outdoors you can sit at which is very refreshing after a hot sauna or hot tub to cool down.
. The restaurant although beautiful, and the food is tasty and looks artistic, is very overpriced and very small portions. I understand you don't want to get super full while at a spa, but the price should be just a tiny bit cheaper. They have Kombucha that is so delicious!
. Now for the treatments. My boyfriend and I first went together right after it reopened from the covid closure. We had a package with the thermal experience, dinner and massage included. Everything was great but both massages were mediocre at best. Both mine and my boyfriends massages were more like being pet, no real tension relieved, no real pressure and it seemed as if both masseurs were fresh out of school and had no confidence in their ability. For the reason we both have not had a massage again. Yesterday we went back with my mother who was visiting from out of town. My mother got a full body massage and I had a Strom facial. Although I was surprised that once she applied the mask to my face she oiled my arms and used hot stones to massage my arms. It felt great. She also did a small scalp massage. Now, if she went to the correct aesthetician school she would know you should never pop acne pimples as it can scar! Before the facial she said she would do a small extraction and pointed to her nose which I understood would be removal of nose black heads which I definitely wanted. When she continued around my face I assumed she was going around extracting my black and white heads around my face but once I looked in the mirror after the treatment I realized she had gone around to all my acne pimples and tried popping them even though they were all old and didn't need popping anyways and now they will scar and take much longer to fade. You should Never ever ever pop zits/pimples. Anyone know knows anything about skincare should know that. I will not be returning for a facial again. My mother said her massage had zero pressure and again was mostly petting. She specifically asked the women to go hard on her legs and feet and my mom said there was no pressure at all and it was quite disappointing. She said her masseuse was very nice, and so was my aesthetician but it's really not worth the money..
From now on we will only be returning to enjoy the thermal experience and food. I have traveled all over the world and visited many spas and always go to many local massage centers for my back issues and honestly, Strom had the worst massages and facials. Don't waste your money, enjoy the thermal experience and have a...
Read moreWhat a terrible experience from start to finish. I’ve never had such bad customer service at a spa like this before in my life. Let’s start from the beginning. My partner and I arrive a little late to our massage because of two unexpected accidents on the long trek there (we left very early, just so you know). When we arrived, the receptionists were nothing but lost. They couldn’t find my reservation, they had no idea what my reservation stipulated when they did finally find it, and then they didn’t know which bracelets to give us. We advised them that we were unfortunately late, and at first it didn’t seem to be a problem as they guided us to the massage lounge. Once at the lounge, we were then told that they, yet again, couldn’t find my reservation. In fact, the lady came back and forth 3 times and had the gall to say that I reserved at the wrong spa (I had to show her my receipts to prove I wasn’t lying). After 5 min of this, she got the master massage therapist to come and speak to us. This lady couldn’t have been more cold and have such a lack of care in the world. She put the entire blame on us and stated that traffic is no excuse (On top of the receptionists wasting 20min of our massage). Then, in a condescending demeanour, she asked if we still wanted to do the 10min left of the massage that we had left. What a joke... Of course it made no sense to, and she didn’t want to provide any sort of solution for us (I.e. offer an incentive or book another date instead). When we went back to the reception, we clearly saw that there was room posted on the wall for massages later that evening (we even have a pic). Fast forward a little, yet another complication in reserving the dinner for “a night under the stars.” Again, no reservation under my name. This is getting old... The dinner was awful and there was not much choice at all. Then it was time for the thermal experience. This is where it gets good. Isn’t a spa a place where you go to relax and de-stress? Well, not at this spa! In fact, there were so many people, and groups of people who were so loud and screaming at some points that I felt like we were at some kind of high school pool party. No staff present anywhere, and I mean anywhere to tell people to be quiet. And to top it all off, absolutely no room to hang your towels and bathrobes and the pools were full of leaves. The spa itself is so small, it makes you question the price you paid for it all. Finally, as it was time to leave, my partner went to give the bracelets and I went to the bathroom briefly. Upon meeting back with him at the reception, I found out they charged him again for the entire experience. My jaw dropped. We then had to speak with who may have been the manager (?) who was also very rude and extremely lost. She (and can you guess yet again?) couldn’t find my reservation and questioned that I even paid at all. So rude and so disrespectful. The money had been taken from my account days prior and you’d think their system would be up-to-date. Anyways, after 20min, they finally found my file and refunded my partner after I found out they weren’t even writing my name properly from the get-go. How was my experience? Not over! I’ll be having a word with their management and owner about this. Completely and utterly unacceptable! Avoid at all costs.
P.S the wait times at the beginning and end are...
Read moreLet’s start with the positives. Spacious, clean and beautiful surroundings. The Finnish barrel spa with one side a full window is amazing. The window was super clean and let in natural light and a great view. I had lunch and the soup was delicious. Tasty bread and flavoured butter was a big plus for me. There are real wood burning fires, great ambience. But what follows is the reason for my low review. There was a sign with an invitation to try some beauty products in one of the relaxation areas. I decided to try it out. Started out well, a very pleasant smelling cleansing makeup remover cream. Second step was a clay mask, this is what I most wanted to try. Unfortunately there was none left in the container. I went to the front desk and asked if the container could be refilled. I was assured that this would be taken care of and someone was called. I continued my spa experience and decided to try the clay face mask at the end. So about two hours later I go to the station eager to try the clay mask. Well now the hand pump for the product was missing and again no product. Disappointed I went to prepare to go home. At the reception when I handed in my key I explained the situation and asked for a sample of the clay mask to try at home. I thought this would be a reasonable solution. But no, I was told samples were not given but I could try the product right there at the reception? Are the employees aware of the products they are selling? No, I would not put on the clay mask then drive home. No, I would not sit in the reception area with the face mask on for twenty minutes. Absurd! So the employee said she would go and ask if something else could be done. Ten minutes later I asked the other employee when the first employee would be back with a response. She went and brought the first employee back. I seriously wondered if she would have come back at all, thinking I would just leave. Again I was told to use the product, the clay mask in the reception area. That she could not give me a sample to try at home. I stated that if they did not have the product they should not be promoting it on site inviting people to try it. She adamantly told me they did have the product, that it just takes time to fill the containers. Seriously, two hours is not enough time? Two hours passed from when I asked for the refill to when I went to the station to try it. In any case, what a sour taste I am left with at this interaction at the reception. It is not just about the availability of the product the spa is promoting. It is about the rudeness and lack of respect the personal had towards me. No, I...
