A Real but honest review. We all have a childhood memory of a food that no one ever was to match. This is that place for me and many when it comes to hotdogs. I have no issuses with the change in management, but the food needs to remain consistent and unchanged. I have been several times since the management changed, and for the most part, they are sticking with the receipe thats made them legendary. My constructive critisms: ease up on the signs all over the place! The new ceiling and heating are nice but your killing the vibe with the cleanliness signs, google review us sign, and finally the 12 hot dog pictures menu. the simplicity of the menu was a big part of the appeal. Hot dogs, fries, drinks,& Poutine. 12 different versions of how i can get my hotdog, made ordering my usual feel more complicated and did nothing to help the experience. Go back to the old menu board + the photos of the poutines. Keep it simple. On the interior renovations, I would stop where you are at now or risk loosing the nostalgia of the place. So replacing the counter top for instance would be a no-no, but your exterior renos (as i see the plywood backing ready to recieve something) would be fine.
Taking over a Montreal institution and modernizing it is no easy task. Please do so while respecting the past that made it an institution.
Lastly...dont do 'free hotdogs for a good Google review'. Your too good of a product to be begging...asking is fine. If your doing things right the market will let you know the truth. And no...I didnt take my free hotdog for this review...it needed to be honest, and you need to earn your stars.
Keep up...

The restaurant is very small and more of a take out counter, with no seating, there is also a drive through. Note they take cash only, there are ATMs on site. We ordered 2 types of hot dogs and a poutine - the hot dogs were good, michigan sauce could have been more flavorful, it was lacking some sweetness. Poutine was a disappointment - the fries were not salted and sauce also lacked some flavor. It was thin and runny, closer to a BBQ type of sauce like St-Hubert style rather than the thick brown gravy. I found everything could have used more flavor. There is only 1 size poutine and it was on the small size. Considering this is some type of historical institution that's been around since 1929, I expected to be charmed but the food was very average and on the...
Read moreWe have been clients of Chez Ma Tante for years. Whenever we wanted to treat ourselves to a fantastic poutine, this was the only spot. My hubby grew up in St-Michel and this place is an institution. We had not been for quite sometime and while we were in the area yesterday, we decided to stop by and pick up some poutine and hot dogs to enjoy. Firstly, the place has been sold recently and you can tell. Their all dressed hot dogs were yummy despite the sausage being a bit dried out. We are however mourning the change in the poutine. Their fries were not cooked enough, you could taste the oil and their sauce tasted like it was out of a packet. Thankfully the cheese quality remains the same. I am so sad to say that Chez Ma Tante no longer wins the title of the best poutine in our books. But I will also add that the overall appearance and cleanliness of the joint is...
