Enter: After walking into the restaurant tonight and having to wait for 5 minutes for a waiter to even acknowledge, 10 to be seated and another 5 to get a menu, it became very apparent that the staff either did not enjoy working here or were understaffed.
Appetizer: We had ordered the onion soup and escargot for us to share which quite honestly were flavourless and bland, especially for dishes that would normally be abundant in flavour. The soup had large, obtrusive, and for a lack of a better word chunks of mushrooms in it that were too rubbery to eat. The escargot seemed to be merely of the canned variety that were cooked with no salt butter covered with a thin layer of cheese. Tasteless.
Salad: Both meals came with a salad. I don't know why it is that they feel obligated to do so however their attempt at making one falls short of cutting the stem off a head of lettuce, marinating it in a margarine based dressing and placing a couple of onion shavings on the top for colour.
Main Course: House steak et Frites for my fiancé and the Saint Paul steak for myself. Both of which were so bland that I'm would be surprised if the pan that they cooked it in had even been used before. I personally find it offensive to serve a fine cut of meat that has been seasoned and cooked properly with any type of condiment but was asked to choose one of three that were possibilities for my meal. My fiancé chose the pepper sauce while I chose the mushroom planning on sampling each-others and conversing. My first bite of what I can only assume is a butchered slab of stringy meat that looked like it came from another tables left overs was having me instantly reach for the tiny stainless steel haven of flavour. I felt a little of my soul drain away as I was forced to implant every morsel of what should have been a beautiful mean into it's brushed belly. Without it I would have been left with nothing but the time it took to chew and swallow to...
Read moreWe use to come here every week with work colleagues. Steaks are not bad, but as everyone says this place is really overpriced. They have cut the portions in half, and raised the prices in the last year.
The main reason why we stopped going here is that, on one occasion the owner or manager was pissed at us because we were 3 people light on a 12 personnel reservation and made us wait for over an hour before we got served. People arrived after us, received their meals, eat and actually had time to leave before we even received our meals. We were compensated with frozen cupcakes and repeatedly hounded for being 3 people short.
Just before Christmas we went back the manager wasn't there and we had a great time service was good, so we planned another visit. This time the manager was there. We were a table of 8 he sat us in a corner table with only one exit. We created another small (about 1 foot) exit on the other side of the table so we could at least go to the washroom without disturbing the whole table trying to get out. His answer was no we can't do that and we should go to the washroom before the meal.
This guy has very little class, and I will never put another foot in a Steak Frites again, just to make sure I don't encourage a company with such poor management!
If you're in the area and you are looking for a great dining experience I recommend: L'Accord (Great Restaurant, not a BYOW but impeccable service and just an outstanding place)
This is my 2 cents...
Just to be fair, the steaks are good though. If you want good steaks try the Keg, and the steak selection is actually...
Read moreI use to enjoy that restaurant. Last visit, I did not. Let's say as a starting point we were a group of 20-25, in the few days before Christmas. We all know that such a time is very difficult for the service. Nevertheless it was a really bad experience for all the group. Let's explain why. 1-we are served bread, just une piece each. Later, when the entree plate is removed, they also removed the bread plate, without refilling even if ask for more. 2-i ordered a hot water lemon a drink. While serving coffee and tea, they were mixed up and while serving me a tea, they remembered it was something else and removed the tea and never served me anything. 3-for the table d'hÎte, a desert is included. They offered a desert choice to those who didn't ask table d'hÎte (a pay désert), while not offering anything to those with table d'hÎte. When I specifically ask for it, I was answered that he will be back in a moment. Nobody never came back. I pair for it... 4-when we received our invoice, we could see that the tip is included. That wasn't planned. My right neighbor has the places calculated on the meal before service, while my left neighbour has the taxes calculated on both meal and service. My invoice has taxes calculated on neither meal alone or meal and service. Very weird.
Sometimes we say that the meal was correct or not according to what we remember, the meal experience or the invoice. Here, I assure you that I remember the invoice !
Very sad that restaurant was so much under...
