I am very happy to have found this restaurant so close to home! I have tried numerous Indian restaurants in the past few years and most have disappointed with bland and similar taste - lacking originality and probably using low quality, pre-made spice mixes (I say this because I have also tried to cook with those spices and noticed the similarity).
WeDesi is a whole new experience! While I used to prefer non-vegetarian Indian food, I have now come to love the vegetarian dishes offered here and feel like I'm on a culinary journey every time I eat at this restaurant.
I have tried numerous dishes and my absolute favorite are their curries! Every single one I've tried is well-balanced and bursting with original flavors! My best choices are the Palak Paneer and Dal Tadka. The Chole Bhature is also fantastic and tastes very fresh! Rasam was a fiery, flavorful and most unique experience, having never eaten that before and it had an instant positive effect on my whole body, one has to try to understand! Naan bread is very tasty and balanced. Paranthas are all delicious and each type offers unique flavors! My whole family, including kids, are crazy about this food. We are not Indian and for a 9 year old to eat so much of this new, spicy food and to ask for more, it means that it's really good!
The sweets are out of this world! They use real ingredients and make them right! I have also tried other Indian sweets shops and really prefer the freshness and original flavors of the WeDesi ones! They do not skimp on quality. For example, I was eating Gulab Jamun and inside there were specks of real saffron. The first time I tried them, I asked for the young man's recommendation and he chose many delicious and different sweets that everyone enjoyed, even my mom who is conservative and not a fan of foreign cuisine!
Inside the restaurant, the decor is modern, clean and authentic! Staff is friendly and attentionate. Sometimes they are very busy and wait times are long, but I don't mind, given the quality of the food. Everyone wants to eat there and it's understandable! Once there was an error and it was most generously corrected, apologies were offered.
My only real complaint is that the prices are not updated on the website menu, which was a bit confusing at first and might deter new clients.
All in all, I can honestly say that this is one of my top 3 restaurants to eat at. Congrats to the chef and to all the people...

Read moreThe food is not terribly bad. Its just below average. Vada pav is not really the best. Its just some veggie patty in a bun. The ambience is good. However, the food is not really memorable at all. Its like someone is cooking the food just to do his/her job. Other indian restaurants in Montreal atleast have few best dishes which stand out. We Desi does not. Rabri falooda was another disaster that I ordered. I was given 3 spoons of falooda in a big glass cup. The cup was almost empty. It even looked horrible. This cost me $7.99. I was not happy at all. When I asked the cashier, why they served so little, she casually replied, ' Sir, rabri is expensive thats why.' So I was thinking why even keep it on the menu? Do you think we cant afford more rabri? Why serve customers 3 spoons of dessert for $8? I could've a tub of chocolate ice cream for $5 which is atleast 20 times the quantity which you served me! I have had rabri falooda many times elsewhere but never EVER was I served this little. What enraged me even more was her casual reply. Atleast she could have apologised and corrected the mistake. But she refused to do so. I can go on and on but this is just not acceptable. If you have the freedom to decide whats on your menu, why put on such a shameful dish on the menu? Overall, this restaurant seems below average in food taste and quantity. Step 1 to improve the restaurant would be to replace all the chefs immediately. There are many customers who have cited in the reviews bad food taste and quality. We were excited to try Indian food in this restaurant and even drove 1 hr to reach here only to be...
