What a huge disappointment our experience was (plus 3 other customers at the same time). As cottage owners of rental properties in Tobermory, we thought we'd try The Taste Kitchen to offer our guests a food recommendation when touring in Lion's Head, but after our frustrating experience we will definitely not be doing so. The front cash attendant was lovely, however after ordering our food (the curry and smoked brisket sounded amazing, so we were excited) we were told just 20-30 minutes, it was 4:53pm and there was 1 large group out front eating and 2 other groups (including children) waiting for food at picnic tables So we walked around the entire town for a half hour, touring the harbour area, amenities, local spots, etc. Upon return, we were told it would be another 5-10 minutes - so we drove around the residential streets. And upon arrival back, we still noticed that the 2 picnic tables of people were angrily waiting and the large group was still eating, so we waited in our car. We also noticed takeout food being picked up constantly from the side door, obviously it was phoned in and given priority somehow. Finally, almost an hour later at 5:45pm, my husband went in only to find out that our food had not even been started to be prepped or cooked, nor had it started for the other 2 tables - unbelievable!!! Starving at this point and feeling really bad for those other young children, we all asked for our money back and all drove off totally annoyed and in shock...as they had lied to our faces multiple times, the older cook was grumpy and very slow moving, and they never even were transparent about reportedly being "slammed" with customers and not able to manage basic lunch food items. All we wanted to do was support local, but we were forced to drive through the big town of Owen Sound and get something fast and reliable. A total disappointment - I hope the owners read this and work with their staff on how to manage circumstances like this, and able to get food out in a timely and efficient manner...or this new business is never going...
Read moreWe had a cozy, comforting and very enjoyable experience at The Taste Kitchen. The Taste Kitchen is a small but quality family owned restaurant at the heart of Lions Head. Their theme is comfort food and have a very eclectic and diverse menu that covers anything from fresh fish and chips to tasty veggie curry, and smoked brisket to paninis.
We arrived at The Taste Kitchen a couple of minutes after their last call on a cold autumn night but they still took us in. We were grateful. It was the perfect spot to finish off our day trip at the Lions Head.
My wife and I had their daily soup (potato corn chowder), Greek salad, main Street burger, Mozza Pesto Chicken burger and chicken fingers. All the dishes were exceptional but the soup was the clear star of the night. The stock was rich in flavor and the ingredients were fresh. It's clear that the owner put a lot of heart and time in perfecting the soup. The burgers were amazing as well. For the main St burger, they seasoned their 6oz beef patty with this unique south African spice which brings out the umami of the beef; the combination of the cheese, beef, bacon and the house sauce makes the burger to die for. My wife really enjoyed the Mozza Pesto Chicken burger as well. You can tell the chicken patty was freshly grounded in house which is rare. The meal was superb.
To top off the experience. The owner was extremely attentive to us and was really curious to hear our feedback and verdict on the dishes. This attention really made our dining experience special.
I am a pretty tough critic when it comes to food and I rarely leave reviews. Net-net, The Taste Kitchen is a solid five out of five. This is a special place my wife and I will visit again on our next trip and definitely recommend friends and family in a true Michelin fashion (worth a detour for).
We wish the owner best of luck and keep up...
Read moreUpon finishing a hike at Lions Head, starving & hoping to find a local eatery, to support the local community, my partner and I found this place on Google (although it hasnt been updated on Google My Business and was a different name on there). The menu items looked great. On arrival, I was confronted with a standoffish woman at the counter. Although there was no one in front of me waiting to order take out, and only one table dining in, it seemed as though I was a bother to her. I ordered our food and was told 20-25 minutes. A bit longer than I had expected, but within reason. That said, I returned for the food at 30 minutes and watched as multiple locals came in to order / get food (I knew they were locals as the cashier knew their names) and recieved it quickly, while myself and a few others stood on the side being completely ignored. I stood there for another 20 minutes watching the clock while the woman did not even acknowledge my presence. I would understand if they were swamped, but there was still only one family dining in, and the cashier seemed to be doing random, meaningless tasks. Finally she asked me for my name to check on my order. She disappeared in the back and came out and took her time acknowledging me. When she finally did, all she did was shrug and say "soon". At this point I was very frustrated so I went back to the car, and I sent my boyfriend in to deal with the situation. We wanted to re evaluate the time for the food to see if it was more worth it to find a fast food restaurant. After another 5 minutes the food was finally ready. Overall very disappointed. Food was okay but not worth the...
