I have been looking for a very specific french pastry known as a canele for about 7 years. Initially, I had eaten one in Vancouver at the Trout Lake farmer's market. It had been so long since eating one, that I couldn't even remember the name anymore. The fact that I have been looking for so long is a testament to the unique deliciousness of the canele. Somebody suggested that I go in to L&C French Bakery at the Radio Cafe, and inquire about caneles there. Well, after my (not very helpful?) description Cyrielle said "Canele?". Oh, the happiness I felt after hearing its name did not match my excitement, exhuberance, incredible joy when Cyrielle said she had the proper molds to make these delights and that she would do so for me. If you have never had a canele, you need to, they are incredibly delicious. The other pastries looked incredible as well, and I hear that Cyrielle and Lisa are at the farmer's market in Nelson too. They were so helpful and enthusiastic about creating these delights, I hope you go in to try their delicious creations, and if you are lucky enough to get your hands on a canele, there is nothing else in the world like them. Thanks Cyrielle and Lisa for your help and enthusiasm...
Read moreWe ordered pastries from L&C Bakery for our wedding in Crescent Valley: hazelnut temptation, chocolate lovers (for the gluten free / dairy free) and raspberry macarons.
I am French and the quality of these desserts is on par with what I would find at high end pastry shops in Paris when I lived there. They are delicious and subtle. Our guests were amazed. I have been in BC for 10 years now and simply put the only other place I found this level of quality and genuine "French dessert" taste is at Thierry's in Vancouver.
In addition, Lisa and her team were very easy to work with, and very accomodating. They even made a special version of one of the dessert to accomodate the dietary restrictions of one of our guests.
All that to say that if I could give them 10...
Read moreWow, wow, wow. After reading an article about the L&C French Bakery, I went to their website to check out the menu. And, imagine my delight, when I discovered that they have GLUTEN FREE goodies. So I drove from Kaslo to Nelson to check them out. And I've been back 3 times since then. AMAZING desserts (both gluten free and regular). And, unlike so many other spots, these desserts aren't just "Pretty good for gluten free". Nope. These gluten free desserts are the best I've ever eaten -- and I used to bake custom cheesecakes for restaurants. The service is super-friendly, the coffee is fantastic and the atmosphere is laid back and comfortable. Support these folks!! I'll keep driving in from Kaslo to treat myself (and others)....
