We ere sitting around one Sunday afternoon in Halifax and asked where my son in law would like to have his birthday at? He thought for a bit and said, remember that spot we ate at in PEI, Sou' West, I said yeah, he said there..... I though for a moment how and when could I make this happen, and I looked around the table and all 4 of the men, where all there, all at the same time, and that's rare for our family. I though for another moment and then said, Well lets go! They all laughed, and say yeah right, and I said, Yes, we are going! Moments later the men loaded up in the Grand Caravan and we took off for the 3.5hr drive for supper on PEI at The Sou'West, for my son in laws Birthday Dinner. we called on the way over just in case and lucky we did as we booked the last table top for 4. we arrived a couple hrs later and were seated. During Supper service, we were served by Stephanie and Ruth and they found out what we had done. The food was served hot and tasty and only moans of enjoyment were heard as we enjoyed a great meal. After the great service and fine dining we enjoyed a surprise Birthday Cake Delivery to our table by the girls serving us! It was a pleasant surprise and finale to a wonderful night out! We so appreciate the very unexpected warmth and kindness we received on our men's spontaneous road trip to PEI for supper at the Sou'West. We do very much recommend you try this place out, you will not be disappointed! 5***** Call ahead, the word is getting out!

Was able to experience Sou'West on a beautifully cool early September evening. Nice patio overlooking the estuary. Food was better than expected and portion sizes were surprisingly large. Fish Tacos were actually fish tacos and not bite size from other restaurants. Seafood chowder was good and the fact it came with a warm biscuit added to the authenticity. Steak sandwich was good for a place that specializes in seafood. The biggest surprises were the mashed potatoes and seafood "bruschetta". It's not bruschetta, it's more like Italian infused chowder. IMO, it's a must have when dining here, just ask for extra bread as the amount given, while a fair amount, is nowhere near what's needed to absorb the wine based sauce. Mashed potatoes are delightful and near perfect in texture and garlic undertones. Really recommend this place!

Arrived mid day, so mid between lunch and supper hours. I had the pan fried Haddock with a side of seafood chowder, my friend had the Fish and chips with a side of the chowder. Both my Haddock and fish bredding from her order were soft, not crisp as it should have been had it been just made. My Haddock was overcooked and dry and totally unappealing. (I left a good portion on my plate) it was almost like it was made much earlier and kept on a heating element. The chowder I felt had a taste of canned milk which I did not like, and the bits of seafood were flavorless. Hugely disappointed in this meal. Especially for the cost. We have been traveling all over the island and had many an excellent meal coast to coast. I would not recommend this restaurant for the food.

The place is nice and it's great eating on the patio. The waitress was friendly and helpful. As for the food and drinks I ordered a upstreet beer and my girlfriend ordered a diet Pepsi. The Pepsi came first as they were out of the beer I wanted. The Pepsi came in a blue solo cup(I believe it cost $4!!!!). I thought it weird as I would only expect solo cups used at a concert or bar in town at night(usually even they use glassware). My beer then came and it was in a plastic Moosehead cup. It was warm and foamy(plastic glasses aren't known for keeping your beer cold). This put the idea that things were going to taste cheap even though the prices weren't. The beer was $6(it's the same other places but comes in a pint glass) and the food was around $20 each meal. I got fish and chips and it was $17 which is a bit pricey for the quality. It was ok but I got lots of fries and thought they were good. My girlfriend got the lobster roll which was OK but nothing special(I like how they call the hotdog bun it's on a New England split roll). What's more though you don't get a ketchup bottle but ketchup comes in little plastic disposible dishes. Little things like plastic solo cups and ketchup dishes give things a cheap feeling and make the prices seem more overpriced than they already are. Some people might not notice but most other places around are cheaper and probably have the same or better food. I went there last year and it was better than this. The excuse I was given was the dishwasher couldn't handle all the glasses early in the summer so they decided to switch to plastic cups. Anyways the people and location are nice the owner needs to stop cheaping out and get some glasses as sometimes something as little that ruins the...

Made a reservation four days ahead for a small birthday party. Specially asked for a table beside the window and was assured it would be no problem. Showed up five minutes before our reservation to see they had given our table away already to a group that was already eating. When we pointed it out we were bluntly told by the host other people came in and wanted the window so there was nothing she could do. We reminded her that that's why you make a reservation, so that they don't give your table away. When we told her we had a reservation for the window and we were assured it would not be a problem, she said it didn't concern her because she wasn't in all day and didn't know anything about that. No apology, no offer to make it correct, just a blunt, rude hostess. We were led to a table that was in between several other larger loud parties. Nobody gave us our menus. They were simply laid at the table and nobody made contact with us. We couldn't even hear each other talk. It was so loud. In the end we left and went elsewhere. No apology, no offer of an explanation, no contact with any waitress. Too bad, we spent a lot of money on the birthday party. But then, it's tourist season so they probably don't even care. I know I will never be spending my money there. We are also locals, so we have no problem spreading the word to...
