As Chippawa residents, my family and I love to come here for a quick bite to eat. Please note I’ve never written an online review ever, but my last experience here was truly disheartening. My lunch was ruined by the lack of friendly service I was given by our server Christine. I give 3 stars still because the food has always been good, aside from this time, and the family who owns the restaurant I know are nice people. This experience deserves a 1 star but it is not the restaurant at fault.
The server was nice at first, but when my dad ordered with his broken English, there was a switch- her tone was different and her presence was simply rude. I understand the language barrier may make it difficult to serve a table sometimes; however, with only two tables visible in the restaurant, there is no excuse to be ignorant and lack patience when serving a paying customer. With quick and snappy questions and responses, it’s no wonder my dad had a difficult time understanding her as well. As a server myself and an avid foodie, I’ve never been more uncomfortable by someone’s service. Perhaps she is friendly to other tables, but she did not smile at us once, nor did she quality check after we received our food. Additionally, I had questions about what I ordered because I intended on ordering fish and chips lightly breaded and not deep fried. Although it may have been my mistake in ordering, she had no decency when explaining that I ordered incorrectly and simply said “No. You are wrong. That is what you ordered” and walked away. I am not one to speak up let alone argue as a customer, but I would never deal with a customer the way she dealt with me. It’s a server’s job to make things right for a paying guest, especially when they receive a tip for their “service.”
I’m aware this restaurant is more for elderly regulars, but we have also been loyal customers for many years. Hopefully they will find some friendlier servers, who do not discriminate and can provide...
Read moreEXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. I grew up in Chippawa and have been going to Betty’s for as long as I can remember. We go at least 20-30 times a year plus have had a couple larger events. I called yesterday evening to book a large group for a family event. I was told the owner Joe was busy and he would call back. About 45 minutes later he did call back. I gave him the date for 2025 and explained I wanted to be proactive as it was for a communion and I know a bunch of schools have the same date and my daughter picked Betty’s as she loves it! He asked numerous times for me to call him back next month in November bc he was busy with Thanksgiving which I completely understood but was not answering my question if I call you back next month will we have the date secured? He just kept saying ok call me next month. Finally after the third time of him not answering I said, I just need to confirm we will have the date secured bc if we call back next month and you say no we would of missed out on another hall, but our number 1 pick is Betty’s. He then asked ok well how many people are in your party, I replied with 40-50. He explained we do have a large room that could accommodate you. I replied oh yes, we come many times a month and have had a large party here before. He said huffed and puffed and said he would recommend me calling the other hall and booking with them. I explained that this was a huge disappointment as we were loyal customers for years. He just said ya, you should book the other hall. I did not once get upset or raise my voice I stayed calm but was extremely disappointed. Betty’s apparently takes pride in being a friendly local restaurant in Chippawa. It is really sad he couldn’t commit to people who have supported him for so long bc you want to see if you get a better offer with more people. My family will never support Betty’s in...
Read moreSo disappointed! Betty’s has been around for a long time and is well attended. So one must presume that the restaurant is well run and one gets good food at a reasonable price. My family and I had such expectations. Alas, Betty’s did not live up to our expectations. There is nothing special about the atmosphere there. Several large conjoined rooms with adequate space between tables; the decor is plain and outdated. Granted, it was very clean. The restaurant was busy. The service. Not so good. We arrived slightly before 6:30 and in a few minutes wait, taken to a table. It was several minutes before a server self-introduced and took our drink and dinner selections. Then time stood still. About 10-15 minutes later our drinks were served. We get it! It’s busy. The time is now tiptoeing up to 7pm. A basket of buns arrives with a side of coleslaw to go with the fish and chips order that had been placed. Once again time stopped. And the restaurant was clearing out. By 7:15 we asked another server, as we had not seen ours for sometime, to check on our order. That server returned with the assurance that our food was on its way. We received our order at 7:30, (the restaurant closes at 8). Our assigned server then proceeded to tell us that some of the menu items we had ordered take extra time to prepare, (ie. a hamburger and liver.) And as a side, apparently chicken wings also take considerable time to prepare. REALLY? A hamburger takes extra time to prepare??? No apology was offered for the delay in receiving our order, just excuses. Also, upon paying the bill our displeasure with the service was told to the hostess. Also, no apology, just more excuses about certain menu items take more time to prepare. Sorry for this long rendition of events however we had to wait for a ridiculous ( almost an hour) to receive our meals. It just was NOT...
