Country Cuisine — Restaurant in North Battleford

Horrible....Ate trout meal here. Trout was tasteless and dry, mashed potatoes were over mush. Like they were mashed 3 times over a period of 2 days then served. Gravy was dark in color with no flavor. Peas and carrots were from a frozen bag I'm sure. Also mush. Soup was vegetable and rice. And you guessed it....rice in soup was mush...ate only half tje soup before myeal came because i wanted to save room for my meal. She took my soup away without asking if I wanted it in a to-go container. They should take trout off the menu if thats what it tastes like and the mashed potaotes. Or make a better mashed potato. I'm pretty sure the cook must not taste any of the food that he sends out.and if he would eat the food there. Then wow. Perhaps the deep fried food is good or mediocre. Cause you can't really mess that up. But they need to revamp their menu or maybe taste it themselves. Or get a a different cook. The only plus side of my birthday dinner. Was that they didn't charge for the meal. Only the soup, of which I unfortunately only got to eat half of. Would definately not dine here again. If there was a half star I would have gave...

First things first. Place is well maintained. Decor is a touch dated but honestly it adds to the charm. The dining room is clean, bathrooms are fairly clean. Pretty confident I could find grime if I looked hard enough but I can walk into any clean bathroom in the world and find something if you know where to look.

Next the service. It was excellent I did not catch the name of our server unfortunately but that is fine. She was super pleasant. Was well informed about the menu and checked in multiple times before we left.

Lastly the food. Hot, very hot, delicious, flavorful, and fresh are all words that describe our meal. Everyone ordered the battered shrimp meal. We did not have to wait long. The food was delivered it arrived incredibly hot. The shrimp was well battered. The gravy was nice and flavorful. The fries could have been a touch more crispy but I like them super crispy so more of a preference and not on the restaurant.

Overall great restaurant and worth the drive from Saskatoon...

One of our favorite restaurants in North Battleford. Pleasant dining and wonderful hospitality. Staffs are really good and know our preferences in the first visit itself. The owner is also a nice person, whenever he is not in the kitchen, he will greet the customers. Reasonable prices and quality food. The only thing is I am a vegetarian, and always order food with no meat in it. Once I ordered Alfredo pasta and there was a piece of ham in it. I was shocked and spoke to the waitress. She didn't charge me for that but tried to make her understand about vegetarians and cultures which don't or can't take meat. This is the only thing they wanted to improve in. It might be a traditional Canadian restaurant but the customers are versatile. Cross contamination shouldn't...
