Iron Forge Pizza — Restaurant in North Dundas

Recently bought some pizza's from Iron Forge along with a poutine.

First off I've never had a sourdough pizza crust before and I found it overpowering the flavours of the rest of the pizza. I ate it cold the next day and found that it tasted better and less sour. I could barely taste the sauce/cheese/toppings over the sourdough. It wasn't a bad experience just a different experience.

The poutine with beef gravy tasted good. The gravy was good and I had the choice of having beef/chicken gravy. The cheese curds were good. The fries were over done or they haven't changed the grease of the deep fryer in long time. Chips are supposed to be golden brown. These chips were more brown then golden. My suggestion to the business is to change their grease more often.

My father owned a fish and chip store when I was a child, very successful. He changed the grease every few weeks and would add in a few scoops every day to keep the flavour going into the food. Beef drippings/grease is the way to go, if you aren't already using it.

Simply amazing culinary experience, last night! Friends had said good things so we took a short drive to Winchester. Laura, our server, gets our Time magazine “server of the year” award! Nothing less, seriously. Made us feel at home immediately. She gave us great advice with the menu since it was our first visit. Kind, informative, attentive, not pushy. She even asked the boss/cook - Shaw - over to our table to answer one of our questions. Laura - the whole package! As we were hesitating between two pizzas, Laura suggested to prepare an 1/2 & 1/2. The Shawarma pizza was simply amazing. Pizza is fast food and you often taste mostly the sauce which can overpower the other ingredients. Not this time. What a great and fulfilling mix of flavours where every fresh ingredient did its job on top of the wonderful sourdough crust! Heaven in one’s mouth, I kid you not. The BBQ chicken pizza took us elsewhere, more on the sweet side. I am giving it 3 stars because our server was phenomenal. If it were just the food I would probably give 1. Not trying to be rude but it was not my favourite and I was excited for breakfast. I can not say the food was up to my standards by a long shot.

Deep fried bacon is what they brought us, and I said over easy for my eggs. Not over medium and definitely not over hard which is what I got. The sausage was the only thing I was not totally disappointed with, they did not have ham on this morning so luckily I had extra. Even the home fries had some weird Cajun spice on them that was not delicious. Again, server was phenomenal she was a sweetheart, but deep fried bacon? Phhh.. some people are into it but you should have to request that. Spend the extra time on the bacon and pay attention to the order I know your not really a breakfast place but if your serving it take the time and care to do it right and to order.
