I saw a post by @Dinein519 on Instagram about Impressions Bakery and immediately looked for the directions to Listowel. My sister and I planned a day trip to go to the bakery, and it was worth the two hour drive each way!
We parked on the street just up from Impressions, and the first thing I saw was two people on the sidewalk eating large donuts from the bakery. We also saw groups of people carrying Impressions boxes, and we started to think we'd made the right decision to check it out.
The store had a wonderful atmosphere, very friendly staff, and and a large variety of homemade products. There was a line up when we went in, but it moved fairly quickly - and it filled in behind us as we moved forward. I picked up a loaf of sourdough bread and a bag of granola while in line, even though I went specifically to try the "fry pies": half-moon shaped donuts which @Dinein519 raved about in his post.
There were so many different flavours to choose from. When it was my turn, I ordered a dozen fry pies (apple, peach, lemon cheesecake, butter tart, and peanut butter & chocolate). My sister got fry pies, a brownie, and an apple fritter. Everything looked and smelled delicious. Then we got to go back outside and join all the other people who had been in the bakery and were "in the know" about this treasure tucked away in a small Ontario town.
I had one of the apple fry pies when I got home, and it was like eating a slice of apple pie in donut form: it was LOADED with apples, the dough was light, and it wasn't too sweet. Absolutely fantastic!

Read moreI've been to Impression Bakery three times while passing Listowel. I confess I'm glad I don't live there, I'd go broke with the temptations. Holy moly are there pies delightful, their crust is tender flakiness that melts in your mouth! The fillings are pungent like a summer's sunset; giving a warm nostalgic feeling when I'd never had a lemon Sour pie before. Several options for freshly made coffee, you'll have to try for yourself. Hot or iced. I'm a little obsessed with their Curry Mango Chicken Wrap, light yet filling. Sweet, savory and umami mixed with dried cranberries and pecans in a crunchy roman leaf; it hits the texture as well as flavour happy buttons for me.
I have loved the atmosphere and customer service each time. A wholesome welcome that only a Granny can command, and they have a little one that is very kind and courteous I've met twice.
When you do go they have many tasty, and healthy, options with a cozy vibe. I only wish I could...
Read moreWe found out about this incredible bakery because of Dine in 519. We made the over hour long trip to check out these infamous fry pies and my goodness we are so glad we did! 🤤 They are literally the most perfect dessert; so incredibly tasty, sweet, perfect texture and literally made me drool. We spent more money than we planned to because we couldn’t say no to so many incredible sweets! Everything looked incredible and tasted even more delicious. Everything is made from scratch and use 100% real dairy. We had 6 different flavors of fry pies, a chocolate peanut butter brownie, caramel cornflake brownie, a massive Oreo stuffed cookie, a raspberry cinnamon bun, the most amazing ginger molasses cookies we’ve ever had and homemade turtles cheesecake. The owner was super friendly too! Highly recommend, we will be back to try all the things we couldn’t. Like the donuts, apparently they’re famous for them as well but they were sold out when...
