Was an avid patron until I brought my two granddaughters for breakfast. Stood in line, gave our name and patiently waited to be seated. A young couple with a child came in 15 minutes after us, gave their name and were waiting to be seated. Our turn to be seated for 3 ppl came around and the owner (who was seating and who took our name when we walked in) bypassed us and was ushering the couple who came in behind us to a table. I stopped her and explained that there might be a mistake as we were next in the lineup and she told me to wait, that she’ll find us a seat later.
I wasn’t the only one appalled at her blatant display of customer service as other customers in line were too. My granddaughter looked at me and said, weren’t we next in line? A typical response would have been to say, don’t worry, we’ll wait for another table BUT, as a person of colour and one who is teaching my family about respect, compassion, human kindness, etc., I couldn’t just ignore. So, I explained to them that this type of disrespect and ignorance is not acceptable towards anyone. With that said, I asked them if they wanted to stay and the oldest (10) said no because she felt a little funny (embarrassed) in front of everyone. Of course, we left.
Long story short, as a long-time patron of this restaurant (even with quality food issues) and a supporter of women-owned businesses, I’ll no longer patronize this establishment. My belief is that customer service is a priority in a business. Even after notifying the possible seating issue, the owner openly disregarded the situation and dismissed us.
I’m hoping that the owner will open her eyes and heart to ensure ALL customers are treated equally. Also, when there is a mistake, be kind and own up to it and correct it. I truly miss the great waitstaff with their funny banter and happy service but there’s no recovery where RESPECT should...
Read moreI absolutely LOVE The Back Road Cafe! It's my number one place to come for breakfast. I started coming, quite frequently actually, with my mom because the kitchen is being completely renovated, and making breakfast isn't easy when you don't have a kitchen.
This restaurant not only makes you feel like home, and gives you that ambiance of being at a diner out in the middle of nowhere, not right smack dab in the middle of Windsor, but it's all run by women, and that's amazing. Everyone of the staff that we've encountered has been absolutely genuine, nice and always have a smile on their face.
I always get the same thing, and it's always made perfectly and always delicious. I order the Lite Bite with eggs sunny-side up, bacon, whole wheat toast, and I substitute tomatoes for potatoes, which they don't charge extra for, and a lot of places do, so this is nice.
Not only have I been very frequently, I'm starting to get the idea that they know my mom and I when we come in. Staff amazing and sweet, food always delicious and hot when served. Definitely deserves this 5...
Read moreAGAINST MY BETTER JUDGEMENT I WENT FOR BEAKFAST AND ORDERED NEW SOFT BACON AS I CANNOT EAT REHEATED HARD BACON AND DO NOT LIKE IT AS IT TASTES HORRIBLE. WHAT I RECEIVED WAS REHEATED HARD BACON THAT I TRIED TO CHEW BUT I COULD NOT. THE WAITRESS WAS GREAT AND REST OF THE BREAKFAST WAS GOOD BUT THE BACON KILLED IT FOR ME. WHEN I WENT TO PAY I MENTIONED IT TO THE OWNER WHO APOLOGIZED AND SAID WELL THEN YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LEAVE A TIP AND SHE SAID WE ARE VERY BUSY. THE COOK CHOSE TO IGNORE THE ORDER AND TAKE UNCOOKED BACON AND FRY IT FOR ABOUT 60 SECONDS SO THE COOK DECIDED THAT SHE WOULD NOT RESPECT THE ORDER AND TOO BAD FOR ME. WELL I GIVE UP ON THIS BACK ROAD CAFE AND ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE A THRIVING BUSINESS I WILL NEVER GIVE YOU MY BUSINESS - NOT THAT YOU CARE AS SORRY NO TIP AD WE ARE VERY BUSY IS NO EXCUSE! Each time bacon is reheated, it undergoes additional temperature changes, which can increase the risk of bacterial growth and...
