We recently revisited the Cajun Pepper since I had fond memories of the restaurant from when I was a kid. And while it pains me to leave a poor review on a local business, I would like to highlight my experience for others considering eating here. For context on my comments, we went on a weekday at supper time.
The general vibe of the restaurant gave an immediate poor impression. The dim light and seating arrangement made the dining room feel claustrophobic. The entryway is lined with polaroids (which faded due to the sun over the years), which, along with the decor in the dining room, just makes everything feel outdated.
On top of that, service was fairly slow. This isn't a major complaint - What I want to mention is that for the hour+ we were here, our party (of 3) were the only ones in the restaurant. Aside from one person picking up a takeout order, the server and us were the only ones present, and everything just felt uncomfortable. It almost felt like they didn't want people eating here.
On to the food: it was ok. The portions were huge, but unfortunately that's the only good thing I have to say about it. The food was just bland. I wouldn't mind paying the amounts they charge if the food was worth it, but for the meals we were served, it was just far too expensive. The cost is an added punch to the gut when I know I could cook the same meals at home and have it taste better, do it faster, and actually be comfortable the whole time.
In conclusion, eating at the Cajun Pepper nowadays feels like a chore. You have to go out of your way to avoid eating at better, cheaper, faster and friendlier restaurants, and I likely will not return until some major...
Read moreTonight my boyfriend and I went out for dinner. He was looking at the Tres Hombres meal , a $23 entree. When ordering we asked that the enchiladas be made without peppers as he is allergic. Although the waitress was nice, they were far from accommodating. She simply replied with “No, he won’t make it without peppers.” No rhyme or reason why, just simply no. He then asked if he could get that meal but substitute the enchiladas with a chimichanga instead, once again, we were told no, the deal is for the meal listed. So, he ended up ordering something he didn’t actually want.
Now for myself, I figured I’d try something new. I ordered the New Mexican Sun Dog, which was a jumbo Italian sausage, wrapped in cheese and a tortilla then flash fried. It came with pickle chips (which I was super excited about, until the came out) and a side of chilli. The pickle chips were very over done, and the sausage was very under cooked.
We spent $60 on 2 meals, that neither of us were truly satisfied with. The fact that there was no willingness to try and accommodate their customers was atrocious. So whoever this “he” was that the waitress was referring to in the kitchen, should take a few lessons in customer service & customer satisfaction.
Safe to say we will not...
Read more$25 dollar tacos are the biggest waste of money I have ever encountered. When I go to a restaurant I want convenience and something that tastes better than what I could feasibly do at home in under 15 mins. They give you a container of meat, toppings and shells. You build your own meal, which is fine but only if the quality was worth the lack of convenience. Toppings were obviously fine, but the shells and spice mix used in the meat were 110% Old El Paso. It was the most lazy thing I have ever seen. I recommend at the very least letting the soft shell hit the grill or something, not cold stale shells. I can't speak for the other food at this place, some of the pictures look good but idk I feel like more corners are probably cut to make a quick buck.
TLDR; Not Authentic, Old El Paso is debatably...
