I went here for dinner with my two daughters (8 and 11) trying to give them the same enjoyable experiences I had with my parents 40 years ago but as they say, you can't go back.
I'll never eat at a Swiss Chalet again.
The food… note the kids menu only goes to age 10, which I found strange for a "family" restaurant. So my 8yo chicken strips with drink and dessert was $10, her sister had to get the 5 piece with fries which was way too much food and a huge waste esp since it was $16 without drink or dessert. Their chicken strips were hot but over cooked and dry, there fries were dry, cold and clearly not fresh. I had the chicken leg and 1/2 rack of ribs, the coleslaw came in a tiny cup and was only half full, the ribs were lukewarm dry and stringy, the chicken was almost cold and tasted off, I didn't finish it. My loaded potato side was also lukewarm, so much so, the grated cheese wasn't even melted.
The service… The server took our order quickly and the food came out fast (too fast?), but after the food was delivered we got checked on 2 minutes later and never again, I kept trying to get a servers attention to get water delivered but 2 of them were too busy sitting down in a booth with their friends for 10 minutes to be working I guess any the rest wouldn't even look our direction, I finally got a couple of waters but by that point we had all finished choking down what we could stomach of our dry meals without anything to drink.
The bill for 1 adult and 2 kids came to $70 without any alcohol, desserts or tip. Shockingly expensive for lousy food and service.
The kicker is, after feeling nauseated the whole evening afterwards, and not being able to sleep I was throwing up at 1am waking up my kids and ruining our whole night and next day. I suspect food poisoning from improper temp meat. Thankfully my girls didn't get sick or there would've been he'll to pay.
Never ever again. Never ever ever again.
So sad that one of my childhood faves has...
Read moreI was traveling through southeastern Ontario and needed a familiar meal I could count on. Having been a long-time fan of Swiss Chalet's rotisserie chicken, I decided to stop at the location in Brockville for a late lunch.
This particular Swiss Chalet had recently undergone renovations over the past couple of years, giving it a bright, clean look. I was pleased to see the restaurant maintaining high standards even in smaller, regional locations.
Of course, the real test was the food. I ordered a half chicken with fresh cut fries and a side of the signature chalet sauce that is beloved by almost all Canadians. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, with a beautiful crispy skin. It's clear that Swiss Chalet has mastered the art of rotisserie cooking, producing perfectly cooked chicken time after time at their restaurants across the country.
As for the chalet sauce, it's the perfect complement to the chicken. Tangy yet creamy, it adds another layer of taste without being overpowering. I can understand why people get addicted to dipping their fries and chicken in it. For anyone who has never eaten here, do not expect chicken gravy.
Overall, this Brockville Swiss Chalet delivered the quality and value that I've come to expect from the brand. They maintain the same high standards that have made Swiss Chalet a staple of Canadian dining. Whether I'm in Toronto, Wiindsor, or Brockville, I know I can get a delicious rotisserie chicken meal at a fair price. It's comforting to find familiar favorites when traveling to the eastern...
Read moreI visited with my family last Friday for dinner. We were seated quickly. I'll tell you, the food is generally much better when in the restaurant. We usually do take out and the chicken always seems dry. Not in the restaurant this time. It was very good. I had the chicken Ceasar salad. Portion size also seemed bigger in the restaurant. Everyone enjoyed their food except my poor sister in-law. She had a wrap and was not happy with it. It was so runny it looked gross. Must have been the hot chicken mixed with mayo causing it to just run all out? Service was okay but could have been better. After we got our food, not once did anyone come to check on us to see if we needed anything. Maybe short staff? While waiting for our food I did notice a waitress roll her eyes in annoyance with another customer when she turned away from them. They were only asking for water and napkins, very nicely. She smiled at them but rolled her eyes as soon as she turned. Was not impressed with this. I would have rated this experience a 3 star but because of past experiences I...
