👍AWESOME! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TRYING THIS LITTLE (hidden) JEWEL IN OUR EAST END! Being skeptical of trying "new places" my husband and I have talked about popping in here for awhile, and just never had an opportunity. So today we had our chance, and SO HAPPY WE DID! When we got there, the young man at the counter greeted us as we came in, that was nice 😁 he asked what meal? (breakfast/lunch) we weren't sure, so he gave us 3 menus to choose from! I did not expect a small (hidden) restaurant to have such an impressive list of dishes. When we asked, he told us what the dishes consisted of. He had asked the cook/chef a question for myself because there was something he wasn't sure about. He made sure to let me know so that was great!
As a skeptic... I was a wondering how it would be...? And because it was so quiet. Only at first though. It picked up in rapid time with pick-up/take-out, phone orders, "skip" and a few more people sitting down to enjoy the delicious food. So we must have come in at a weird time LOL It did take a bit for the meals to be prepared, which he did also inform us that, that would be the case. However it was absolutely worth the few minutes because everything was fantastic!
There were multiple tv sets on with different programs so it seemed like if you chose to dine solo, you'd be perfectly comfortable with the television company LOL
I didn't ask but I think they may do events/rentals?? It looked like there was a portion that could be sectioned off for privacy. So 🤔 maybe?! I would like to find out... it would be great to have an event there. Plenty of room, amazing food, great staff. We'll be back, and bringing people with us! (Don't go disappearing anywhere please!)
I highly recommend this place! If you're not impressed and don't enjoy your visit. Either we hit it on a wonderful day, or you hit it on an off day.
Thank you for the great experience. It has been a very rough while for everyone...and how the world is now you never know what's coming. I'll give credit where it's due, you made my day. So...
Read morethey had a Kari Virunthu (Non-Veg Feast), and we went there with a few friends too. It was not satisfactory at all. Being from South India, we know what a typical Kari Virunthu taste should be like, but we were highly disappointed. Here is the review of the items:
Chicken gravy: It tasted more like chicken rasam, although the flavor was good. It lacked the consistency of a traditional gravy. Mutton gravy: There's no way that was Mutton Kulambu. It seemed like mutton fat oil, and it resembled a rasam more than a gravy. Fish gravy: It didn't resemble Meen Kolambu at all. It only matched about 60% of the taste of fish kolambu and was diluted with too much water. Plain rice with veg rasam was good. Gulab Jamun: Excellently tasty. Chicken 65: Great taste Mutton chukka: It wasn't good. It didn't taste like mutton and had the smell of typical lamb. Fish fry was good. Buttermilk (More) was great too.
I will go there for their Parota and Chalna, but definitely not for the Kari Virunthu. I think they should stick with what they are good at, rather than attempting something they cannot deliver well in...
Read moreDecember 2023: 5 Star Review Visited this gem of a diner. It has a real old-style diner vibe, with great music.
Kate, our server was super friendly and attentive. She gave a complimentary milkshake to my boyfriend and me, with two straws in it. It made our day.
The food portions and the menu versatility are amazing. It is a must-try restaurant on the east end. The home fries are like lays and we devoured them. Continued visiting twice a month (Update) April 2024: Visiting this restaurant again. New owner. Customer service was laughable. We entered the diner, no one to show us the seat so we just sat after standing 5 minutes at the door. Then comes a man with the menu. Huge language barrier. Served us coffee and took our order. Coffee was extremely watered down that we had to just get up, cancel the order, and leave. We just took a sip of coffee but they made up pay for it 😂😂😂 Never again. They need to change the way they operate if they are...
