Mahdia Shawarma — Restaurant in Orangeville

Absolutely disgusting 🤮! This place needs to be written up. I walked in looking for a “halal” place to eat. We called them to make sure they were “halal”. I walk in & the Menu had few items on the board. I was looking for a halal certificate. The only thing I found was a printed sign that was typed out with “halal”. I look behind the counter and the shawarma spit/rotisserie. It looks old and there was literally nothing left on the two spits. She was offering me one of the two. “I was like it’s it time to take those spits off and add new meat? There is barely anything left on it.” She just laughed. 😳 on the other side of the counter was a frying machine with already cooked potatoes cubes. Mind you, the fryer was turned off and they probably been sitting there for hours. I wanted to walk out, but I decided to order a chicken shawarma cause I wanted to see the process of how she made it. She opened a metal tin and she saw there was not enough meat on in it. She cut some meat from the chicken spit threw it in the metal tin. Mixed it with the old meat and filled the pita. She had old toppings that had white film on the tomatoes and pickled items. 🤮 she grilled in on stove gave it to me. First time we went to Mehdia Shawarma we had a 3/5 experience. The chicken Shawarma was okay but a bit dry. I figured we would give them another try as hopefully that was a one time thing. Upon our second visit, I asked the owner to ensure the Shawarma's were not dry. He proceeded to show me how moist the meat was. I said I understand what your saying but unfortunately it was not that way the first time. He then asked, "so let me ask you a question? Why did you come back?" I told him I wanted to give them a second chance because they are one of the only places in Orangeville. I then left because I felt that his response was unprofessional and uncalled for. To my understanding, as a new business, you want customers to return. Its probably not a good idea to question their constructive criticisms. This is how you become better and maybe the best in Orangeville... I will never return based on this poor...

Last time i ate here was last year and it was pretty flavourful from what i remember. However, I went here recently after a year to get a large chicken shawarma wrap. They used cut up chicken shawarma in a lid lock tray that they put in the wrap. From what i remember getting it last year, i would see them actually carve hot fresh shawarma off the vertical rotisserie or spit for my wrap. Well anyways, the employee ripped up the pita wrap while rolling my wrap which i am not going to be too critical about. I mean i would rip up the wrap too if i was in the worker's shoes lol its hard to wrap it especially when theres a lot of ingredients in the wrap. As a result, they had to put a second pita around my wrap. What was most disappointing was the chicken shawarma. It was very hard, dry, and plain.
