Most popular place in the neighbourhood for the "to go" (meat) sandwich - with good hours (cash only / delicious sandwiches)
From the outside, looks like any other neighbourhood's family-run corner store. In this case, looks really are deceiving - because inside, is the best well-oiled fresh-as-you-order sandwich machine going.
Di Rienzo's is one of several really good sandwich shops here in the Little Italy vicinity. Most of our shops offer big freshly-made sandwiches at reasonable prices (in the area of $10 including tax), and include the use of fresh breads, lots of meat (and meat choices), and numerous dressings / toppings options. These traits, just mentioned, are our neighbourhood's norm.
What sets Di Rienzo's apart is that they offer their deliciously fresh and heftily made-on-the-spot sandwiches for $10 (tax included) as well as other homemade prepared Italian take-out faves at really reasonable prices (i.e. your italian pasta favourites). Speed is super impressive (they are so well-organized). If you see a crazy long lineup - don't panic. You might have to wait 10 minutes at the most. These people have been doing "the perfect fresh sandwich" so long, they have every aspect down to a fine art. You'll see for yourself. Another plus in their favour is their hours. They are open at 7:30 AM - and so is the sandwich bar. And, they don't close until around 7 PM.
Good quality / quantity sandwiches - period. Note: Cash only.
Parking can be fun / interesting sometimes (LOL) ... just keep in mind everyone else is there for the same reason you are.
(While I don't eat sandwiches made with meat, I do buy them frequently enough for my accomplice ... and...

If you’re in Ottawa and haven’t been to Di Rienzo’s Grocery for a sandwich yet, you’re seriously missing out. This place is hands down one the best spots in the city for an authentic, no-frills, absolutely delicious Italian sandwich. The quality, taste, and value are unmatched, and it’s no surprise that locals and visitors alike rave about this hidden gem.
First off, the bread is always fresh—soft on the inside with the perfect crust on the outside. They don’t skimp on ingredients, either. You get thick layers of high-quality deli meats, fresh cheeses, and crisp vegetables, all topped with just the right amount of sauce or dressing. Whether you go for the classic prosciutto and bocconcini, the spicy capicollo, or something custom, every bite is packed with flavor.
The service is quick and friendly, despite how busy they always are. Even if there’s a lineup (which there often is), the staff keeps things moving at an impressive pace. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, and it shows in every sandwich they make.
And let’s talk about the price—where else can you get a massive, high-quality sandwich for such an affordable price? In a world where everything seems to be getting more expensive, Di Rienzo’s still offers an incredible deal without compromising on quality.
Whether you’re grabbing lunch on the go, picking up a few for the family, or just treating yourself, this place never disappoints. Di Rienzo’s is more than just a sandwich shop—it’s an Ottawa...
Read moreOriginally from the Ottawa valley, i relocated to Vancouver island many years ago. My new coworker and i discovered we’re both from similar location here and reminisced of the beauty and our favourite food. Happily returning for family wedding, he begged me i must go to Di Rienzo’s as their sandwiches could not be beat. Wow he could not have been more correct. We were greeted by the staff, family owned and operated and encouraged to try their infamous #14. This was also my coworkers suggestion. The external crustiness and internal softness of the bread intertwined with the flavour of the meats and cheeses and toppings was delectable with the portion satisfying any appetite. And then the homemade cannoli. Words fail to describe the flakiness and delectable flavour of the pastry with the creams delicate smooth creamy flavour. The laughter and friendliness was not to be beat and we were lucky enough to get a photo with the owner. My coworker back in BC was thrilled i was able to partake of his favourite establishment he had not been to in many years. Hidden in little Italy on a quiet street it can be easily overlooked by passerby but I’m sure the locals are happily guarding this secret for themselves. Who wouldn’t. Never will a trip back to Ottawa be made without a stop here and will be on my list...
