Was comping out this way a few day ago, the breakfast place I wanted to go to was closed we decided to go here. “This place is cute”, I thought to myself when I walked in. Has that small town charm like I’m in a hallmark movie. I can literally see the guy making bread. Pretty cool. “$10 for a breakfast sandwich eh” were my thoughts as I looked at the menu, well I guess this isn’t exactly Tim Hortons. I better grab a loaf of this bread too since I’m here. Well the bread was still warm when I put it in the bag. “Alright, warm bread this place is starting to seem good. But it is a bakery after all, the bread should be warm in the morning”. So we sat and waited for our breakfast sandwich while sipping some rather delicious coffee. “So far we are 2/3”. Sweet baby Jesus in a manger, the girl at the counter handed us our breakfast sandwiches and we both just sat in pure silence as we both didn’t want to stop eating to discus how amazing these sandwiches were. Like from a guy who’s eaten a lot of breakfast sandwiches in my time, I have to say this is hands down the best I’ve ever had. Pickles! Like how? Why? I don’t even care. Pickles, egg, mayonnaise and the best bread I’ve ever had in my life. Anyways, 10/10 recommend.
P.S If you’re wondering what happened to the loaf of bread I bought. The wife found me passed out on the kitchen floor later that evening surrounded by bread crumbs with butter smeared all over my shirt mumbling something about Carp and how we need to visit more often.
I was gonna post the phot I took of the sandwich, but it really wouldn’t do it any justice. There are much better photos in...
Read moreI partook in a rather uninspiring lunch with a friend at Eldon's. The food was poorly executed (boring presentation) and lacked flavor. The portions were small, flavors very basic. From what I can tell the components of the lunch were brought in (i.e. bread not baked in store) and simply assembled. The restaurant lacks character overall. There was four (possibly five) employees working which would explain the abhorrently high price for a pork sandwich. There were no other clients. Sadly I wish I had the experience others seem to have enjoyed but I was left with a stiff bill for a small lack luster meal. I really wanted to enjoy this place as from the outside it looked cute. The place lacks vision and could really elevate their menu by sourcing some of the phenomenal farmed in season products available locally. I expected a seasonal menu or a departure from plain café style eats that seem to have overwhelmed the Glebe with mediocrity. Was definitely left wanting more. I recognize operating a restaurant is difficult but with nothing notable, high staffing costs and food that is both too simple and portions too small I cannot reconcile the price to the experience that I am most definitely...
Read moreVery enjoyable experience for dinner. Haven't tried their breakfast/brunch menu, but have been in for dinner a few times and Eldon's has proven to be reliably delicious. Small menu, but I prefer that as I know the kitchen isn't overstocked with the ability to offer hundreds of options. Very fresh, and well presented. The menu changes regularly so we'll be back to see what's new. One thing to note is it has very high ceilings so the restaurant can get a bit loud.
Winner from my last meal was the rainbow trout which was fantastic. Only miss was the rhubarb tart which came across as simply a simple puree in a store bought tart shell. I doubt it was, but it didn't live up to the expectations set by the...
