Jerkies Chicken — Restaurant in Ottawa

I just reading the reviews and wow! wow! wow! This last review from Meredith absolutely lying and it's crazy she would go out her way and do this. Good thing I was there plus all her reviews are bashing different establishments and people. So..... I was there during this situation, and none of this is true. It’s unfortunate when people try to spread false stories about a small, family-owned restaurant. I ordered 10 plates for my family, and they told me it would be a little wait, which was fine. Then, this woman came in, tried to place an order, and when she was told there would be a wait due to a large order, she seemed frustrated and said she’d come back. She didn’t pay for anything and just walked out.

She returned about 10 minutes later, acting rudely, claiming she had already waited long enough. The staff explained that they weren’t sure she still wanted to order because she had said she’d come back. She responded by flipping the staff off and storming out, making accusations of racism. I’ve been coming to this restaurant for a long time and have never experienced any kind of racism from the staff. There’s even a picture of a "white guy" with the restaurant logo hanging on the wall, so it’s clear there was some confusion.

It’s really sad that this review is so misleading, especially when the staff works hard and the food is always great. I just wanted to speak up and share my experience since I was there and saw everything firsthand. Keep up the amazing...

Horrible staff and experience, I already know their food isn’t even that good, but went in to place an order of a side of plantain 😂 seems pretty simple right 😂 and Waited ten minutes to even be acknowledged , when I tried to place order was told “they have a lot of orders right now and it would be a wait” so I said that’s okay I was willing to wait , and got told “we are a small restaurant we can’t just be taking orders” I was confused, did I do something wrong? 😂I have ordered walking in before.. I said “okay do you just not want me to order “ she said “well we are a small restaurant “” just repeating the same nonsense as before sp I just walked out saying have a nice day, she proceeded to FLOW ME OUT THE DOOR telling me IM BEING INSENSITIVE??? 😂😂 I explained I was willing to wait , that I was going to walk around the block with my daughter, and she said it would be twenty minutes,I told her that’s fine , but you obviously just didn’t want me to order ?? 😂 we won’t be coming back don’t worry 😂 I have ordered before just walking in multiple times from different staff than the older lady, maybe she just hates white people? Tried curry goat, plus sides of plantain & fries. Would have liked to try jerk chicken but it wasn't on the Uber Eats menu when I was ordering, just saw wings & fried chicken strips!!(?) The large curry goat meal had a decent amount of meat but wasn't curry in any way, no noticeable spices & no sauce. It still tasted good and good texture (not tough) if you like goat. Rice okay, a little bland. Fries were unfortunately soggy & would ask for extra jerk seasoning on them next time. Can't go wrong with fried plantains, these ones were on the firm and starchy side.That's okay w me, but could've been fried longer. Assume there weren't any riper ones on hand.
