Update- March 26th, 2023 After my previous experience of ordering from here, I decided to go and try their sushi buffet. It was horrible to say the least, the sushi’s were not good at all in comparison to all the other all you can eat sushi places you can find in Ottawa. Sushi was bland and tasteless, all the sushi’s tasted exactly the same, the menu was sticky and dirty. The only saving grace is their price which is reasonable compared to other places (Lunch weekend buffet for $25.99) even the miso soup didn’t taste good. MISO SOUP! The chocolate mousse desert was alright. I will consider ordering food from here again if this what the new standard is! 👎 We ordered the vegetarian platter along with fireworks sushi roll! I must say the sushi’s were really up to the mark. Not sure why the previous ratings are so low and seems to me like most people rated this place based on their cleanliness. We ordered on DoorDash so cannot comment on in restaurant experience. Why 4/5? There is always room for improvements with veg sushi :) mangoes in mango sushi can be replaced with sweeter mangoes and cucumber sushi can have a bit more creamcheese. Over all the 18 veg sushi (Avocado roll, sweet potato roll, mango roll, cucumber roll) and Firework sushi came with a tiny container of seaweed salad, miso soup( delicious) and all the typical condiments. All the veggie sushi’s were delicious.Cost was around $30 before tips and is good for 2 people. Update - July 31st, 2022 This place is still as good as it can get, the shrimp-mango maki roll was on point, so were the sushi’s in the vegetarian combo. The mango’s were sweet and 24 sushi’s costed ~$30 with tax ( includes the combo and mango-shrimp tempura sushi) , incredible food and I’m definitely a repeat customer ❤️❤️❤️

My recent visit to sushi kan was deeply disappointing, marked by uncomfortable service and substandard food quality. From the moment we were seated, the level of professionalism plummeted. Our waiter was disturbingly inattentive, dedicating what seemed like half of his time to staring at us rather than ensuring our dining experience was pleasant. This made us feel uneasy and unwelcome, a feeling that was exacerbated by the sound of laughter from the staff area whenever our food was brought out. The food itself was a disaster. The tofu, which I have included a photo of in my review, looked unappetizing and tasted no better. It seemed as though minimal effort had been put into its preparation. Furthermore, much of the meal appeared to be made from frozen ingredients, lacking any freshness or flavor one would expect from a restaurant that charges for a quality dining experience. The atmosphere created by the staff, who seemed to find amusement in our dissatisfaction, was the final straw. Such unprofessional behavior casts a dark shadow over sushi kan and its management. It is regrettable that a place that could offer a pleasant dining experience is let down so severely by its service and food quality. I would not recommend this restaurant until significant improvements are made. The only good thing was the dynamic sushi.

An excellent food fusion location, the sushi was done exceptionally well with obvious care and unexpectedly they had excellent thick cut fries which is a bit unconventional but was welcom. I ordered a la carte aiming for a salmon bento and didn't pay to much attention to the sides. The food came out right away and the appraisers were declious, the salmon sushi was incredible, the rice and sushi were both at different and perfect temperatures and cut very well allowing for max flavor, not falling into the pitfall of having too much vinegar on the rice. I was very surprised when ketchup arrived at my table just before the bento, then I saw the fries I had missed on the menu, they were freshly made and crispy! Extremely delicious. In addition to the food, I sort of stumbled into the restaurant a bit confused and even with the Al la carte menu I was supposed to put my order on paper and despite being asked to do this tried to order verbal by mistake, before correctly myself. Thought the process the staff were very kind, never getting frustrated with me despite me being a bit thick headed at moments. The staff literally couldn't have been better, and the speed of service was incredible.

It’s unfortunate the food quality has gone down SO BAD. I have been a customer of sushi kan for many years (more than 10?) I first went to the one on innes and was my go to sushi place. Also used to go to downtown location when I worked near there. Loved it and praised it! But in the past two years I’ve noticed the quality at this location has dropped a lot. I figured cutting corners with pandemic costs? Decided to still give it another shot and came here a few weeks ago. It was actually disgusting. I don’t usually write reviews or bother to write negative ones…but a few weeks later and I’m still annoyed. Worst sushi I’ve ever had. Like we literally could not eat it. And I eat food court sushi so the bar is low LOL

We usually order multiple rounds at all you can eat sushi. We ordered one round and the food was so bad we didn’t eat it and didn’t order any more. The fish was not fresh and we were concerned we would get sick. The flavour was very bland. We were disappointed it was so gross. But being a not confrontational millennial we decided to not make a scene of it, cut our losses, and asked for our bill.

They then told us they would charge us extra because we didn’t eat the food. I told them we didn’t eat it because it was gross (for context we ordered 4 rolls for 2 people so nothing excessive). They said if it was bad we should have told them. Well….we are? “No you should have told us right away if it tastes bad. We would remake it”. You would remake gross sushi? It’s not like one had an issue. They allll were gross and poor ingredients. And also…Ok so because I was being polite and not calling over your waiter to yell at them that the food was gross and I’m not paying…then I’m in the wrong?

Looking at it logically we hadn’t ordered 1000 things and didn’t finish it. We ordered a little food as the first round and didn’t eat it because it was gross. And didn’t order anymore. I’m sure as owners of all you can eat place you know what a normal order looks like. We didn’t yell at you that your food is nasty and try to get out of paying the very high weekend dinner price. We accepted the loss. But you want to charge us EXTRA $$ on top of the already high price for not eating your poor quality food??

Very disappointed and after all these years supporting sushi kan I will never go back :( honestly...

Words cannot describe how vile the experience was. Before you walk in the door there is a sign that says they do not take debit and conveniently have a cash grab machine so you can pay if you choose not to use credit.

The service was mediocre and it looked like our server was stalking our table as if to hustle us out. One glass of water and then I had to flag the stalker down for a second glass.

There are not enough words to describe how substandard the food was. They were passing off questionable shrimp, shrivelled up mushrooms in the tempura. The crab wrapped in bacon tasted fishy. I am happy to report I survived the meal. I felt like we were getting old food disguised as sushi.

You better not order anything you do not finish as it states very clearly on their menu leftovers will be charged full price per leftover dish. So my friend and I ate feverishly even if a dish sucked so we would not have extra charges. So what do they deem leftover 1 Piece? 2 pieces? was not spelled out. The good news many of the items came as single or double pieces. A few of the items we ordered never showed up.That was probably a blessing in disguise.

To add insult to injury I went to the washroom and soaped up my hands to wash them and the three sinks had no water. So I went out to tell the waiter who could care less but found a cheap highly scented sanitizer on the takeout pickup table. That was the gift that kept on giving until I returned home to thoroughly wash my hands. Perhaps they should buy unscented sanitizer.

The food was garbage and the fact they have to post rules leads me to believe they might want to review their All You Can Eat business model. I would rather have a few quality dishes than $25.99 order as much as you want garbage with the fear of being charged full price if you don't eat the dish. There is much better Sushi in Ottawa. This was a suggestion from my friend I met for lunch. Don't bother going. I sure will...

Very average sushi with the worst service I've ever experienced.

We got there a Sunday evening around 8 and there were only two tables taken. The initial service was very quick and we got quite a few rolls in the first 15 minutes. The rolls are very large and thick, with little taste or texture. At about 8:30 for some reason they decided to take the Soy sauce off of our table even though we weren't close to being finished (They took the two bottles). We had to go take a bottle ourselves from another table after they didn't bring any back for quite a while. Then we waited a good 10 minutes and they didn't send us anything until they came and told us it was our last call for food (at 8:41); even the menu said last call was at 9:00 (30 minutes before closing). We asked them if the other rolls we ordered from the initial order were still coming, and she told us no. So we were rushed to order our last ticket, and re-ordered the initial rolls that never came. (we also ordered a few other things we wanted to eat). After about 5-10 minutes they drop off all the food we ordered at once, which included all the rolls we initially ordered (which they told us weren't coming), and the new rolls we had ordered to replace them. This was a lot more food than we had planned to eat/ were able to eat but started chowing down. About 5 minutes later (around 8:55, still half an hour before they closed), as we were eating our food, one waitress comes up to our table and tells us that if we don't finish everything she is going to charge us more. We were completely shocked that even though we were in the middle of eating she would tell us this. It literally seemed like a game show where the restaurant had to try to offer the worst service possible as a joke. We ended up eating the majority of the food and didn't pay extra, but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Hands down the worst AYCE sushi restaurant in Ottawa; bad sushi with even...
